a/c weak?

I have a 2008 EX-L and I think the a/c is weak. I turn it down all the way to 58 degrees on both sides and it blows ok.... but in today's weather of 95 + degrees I feel it could blow colder. When the car is driving it seems better that when I come to a light and idle. Is this the way a four cylinder is with a/c?

Well
Depends on your previous car. The 134a systems are not as efficient as R12 used to be and on 4-banger they can't really size it up to accommodate for that.
But I am also finding dame in V6 caddy and even V8 Jeep.
It is also possible that there is something wrong with you car - if in doubt take it to a dealer. They will check freon pressure and outlet air temp and see if it is in the specs. But I think everything is just fine just A/C have to work really hard to cool down from 95F. Just turn recirculation on and temp will drop after couple minutes (instead of taking fresh hot air from outside it will continuously cool inside air).

Weak A/C seems to be an on-going complaint with CR-Vs. For some reason it gets to be a big topic on the forum about this time of year. Heard the same thing from new 07 owners last year (including myself). I doubt there is anything wrong with your car, it just don't have a lot cold umph.

Is everyone using recirculate, or are they venting from the outside? If you're not using recirculate, try it and see if it makes a difference. I live in a very hot climate, and my a/c works great.

I always use recirculate on the a/c. Not only does it give the fastest cool down and highest efficiency to the system, it also eliminates outside odors such as diesel trucks, buses, smoke, etc.

One thing to remember with recirculation, you are recycling the same air in the car over and over. I don't recall Honda saying much about it in their owner's manual, but on my previous vehicle, Plymouth minivan, Chrysler took a dim view of using recirculation. The vehicle was equiped with it, but they had cautions about using it excessively. If I remember right they were concerned about excessive humidity build up and mildew in the A/C, but its been too long I can't remember. But they had a list of concerns associated with recirc. In fact, when you turned the engine off, the A/C would go out of recirc mode. You would have to place it back in manually when you restarted the vehicle. According to the owner's manual they did that on purpose. One got the distinct feeling that Chrysler did not want you using the recirc mode. I don't know if their concerns were valid or not, but it has always stuck in my mind and I seldom use recirc unless it is really hot out.

I was complaining about the a/c on my 2008 crv EXL being on the weak side. I brought it in to the dealer today to have it checked out. They came back and told me that there is nothing wrong with it. So to all of you who said the same thing..you were right! This is the first 4 cylinder car I have owned in a long time. So I guess that's the way it is.:o

Thanks for reporting back what the dealer had to say. Too often we hear all about the problem but not the solution. As others have indicated it works fairly well on recirculate.

The problem is the AC compressor disengages under even the slightest accelleration to maintain power for the engine. I went thought the whole thing with Honda, as I live in Arizona where it gets to 113 degrees. The AC is working as designed but just plain sucks....
