hi all, i have a 97 cr-v and am in the process of giving it its first tune-up. as many of you may know, it was a pain to get the distributor rotor off. after 2 days and countless times to the local auto zone, i got it off. however, when i replaced everything (spark plugs, wires, dist. cap/rotor, and air filter), it has trouble starting. i assumed it was the firing order, but i used the 1-3-4-2 recommended order. it starts, but shakes pretty bad and screeches as if a couple of the cylinders werent sparked. i've checked everything i touched along with different firing orders(just in case). i've even replaced every part w/ the original parts to see if i had bought any faulty parts, but its still the same! after that, i figured that i mustve done something wrong in the process, but i cant figure it out! i have the biggest headache rite now. plz someone if u know what can be causing this, help me out bc as of rite now, i have no ride. thanks to all in advance.

You didn't post your mileage or country. You may (and still may be) eligible for a free tune-up on your 97 thanks to a deal cut between Honda and the EPA years ago. It includes plugs, cap, rotor and plug wires, original stuff, installed free. Your local dealer would be able to tell you if you qualify.

For the firing order, did you go from left to right across the block (as seen from the front of the car) or right to left? I ask because it sounds like you either have a firing order issue (recheck your plug wires) or you have a bad connection to one or more plugs.

Glad I saw this post! Was doing a tune up and wire change , got a phone call and my 10 year old son decided to help while I was gone. Came back and all the wires were off the cap and plugs, he was so proud that he helped me with out being asked. I couldn't get mad ,took a couple of tries to figure out where was the 1 spot on the cap and which way was 1-4 but got it and runs much better now, looked at the old plugs and was amazed that it ran as well as it did. Thanks for the info it sure helped !
