problems with my 2007 Honda CRV accelerator (gas pedal)

I have no complaints so far with my Honda CRV 2007 reg. pick up or on the road. Though I use mainly freeway everyday - still I manage to get only 22.5 miles per gallon - my only complaint. I already did two servicing - 7500 miles and 15000 at my Honda dealer and I am the only driver. My biggest concern recently is I am having problems with my accelerator . I need to push the accelerator very hard and gets bit slow down in the middle of the highway. And the speed goes down from 70 mpg to 55 mpg and it takes atleast 1 or 2 mins to go up. It is very frustrating. Why is it? What should I do? This is quite new to my CRV 2007 as I haven't experienced it before. Thanks for all the responses in advance.

welcome to hondasuv.

im a little confused with your post.
you're complaining of your gas pedal being hard to step on or your car slow to accelerate or both? and i think u mean "70 mph to 55 mph".
when i first bought my crv, i did notice the gas pedal being a bit hard - compared to my other cars.

first of all, crv's now are DBW - drive by wire and dont have cables anymore. so you may feel a bit more resistance than a car with cable. have you checked whether you have floor mat stuck under the gas pedal? it happens.
second, it depends if your a/c is turned on or not. if it's turned on, it takes longer to accelerate coz the a/c robs you of power.
lastly, your car is a cr-v - not a porsche. dont expect quick acceleration in the blink of an eye.

It sounds as though your problem just developed. As jeprox mentioned the gas pedal is drive by wire. About all you can do is to physically check the pedal and make sure nothing is interfering with it. If not then I think you need to go see your dealer.

Welcome to the club, and good luck with you probem.

I went to my honda dealer and reported the problem. They found that the transmission fluid was running very low and hence the issue. Replaced the transmission fluid and test drove and gave me the keys back. Now it is running smooth.

I went for my 2nd services just 45 days back and spent $300 for the services which includes the check and filling up of transmission fluid. I am wondering did the guys did any check or not. Is a good idea to report to Honda or the manager of my Honda dealership? Advise me.

good to hear you got your problem solved,.
if you got charged for filling up your tranny fluid - then yes, go back and complain coz they should've checked/filled up when u went for your $300 service!
a lot of times, dealers skip on those check this-check that items coz the vehicle is new so they just assume everything would be ok. they simply tick the box on the paper and off u go.
it happened to me with another car of mine. it had to do with the brakes on my other car.

What in the world did they do on a 2007 CR-V that was worth $300.00? Second service set by the MMI is change the oil and oil filter, perform a handful of piddly inspections, rotate the tires, and change the rear differential fluid if 4WD. That is worth $300? Good grief!

More to the point, where in the hell did your transmission fluid go and how was that making your accellerator hard to push? Oh, I think I misunderstood your original post. So where did your transmission fluid go? Transmissions don't consume fluid, it has to go somewhere. Did they charge you for the transmission fluid on the second service? If so how much did they put in? Your transmission should not be using fluid like that, something sounds wrong to me.

So the transmission fluid is low enough to cause problems, 45 days ago they filled it. Today they fill it back up and give the car back? What in the world is going on here? Your car should still be under warranty and I would think that being able to retain transmission fluid is a warranted item. Do you have puddles of red fluid where you park? Something is not right.

Thanks for the reply. They did not charge anything. Although I was bit upset when the service manager (SM) told me "the reason was because it was low on transmission fluid and we test drove it on the slope and now it works fine, sorry for any trouble".
I was very polite "Is it not supposed to check the transmission fluid when I came for my 2nd service on 3rd May 2008?"

SM: Yeah, transmission fluid should have run low may be 7-10 days later.
I: Anyways thanks for your service and fixing it.
SM: Anytime
I: Thanks, Bye.

Where is your transmission fluid going? I got 17000 miles on my V right now. If it needed transmission fluid I would be concerned. Why do you need to add transmission fluid?

I have no idea, I am quite new driver especially reg. auto repair I have zero knowledge. Yesterday while I was driving I realized it is hard to accelerate in the hill (not really a hill, but a easy highway 280 N road). According to my honda service center they reported that my CRV is running low on the transmission fluid and thats the reason for pushing hard on the accelerator while I am on hill. Hence they changed and V is fine now according to her. I will also follow up with the service manager and ask her to write down in writing. During my last visit - she gave me 2 forms - one before service - "accelerator having problems while pushing the gas while on hill" and one after the service - "transmission fluid running low, replaced and tested on hill, not seeing any problems now". Look like I need a new transmission is it?

I may be wrong, but I believe that it is abnormal for a transmission to consume ATF. Thus your fluid has to be going somewhere. Two possibilities come to mind. 1) A leak, which should be visible under the car. 2) There used to be a contraption called a vacuum modulator on transmissions. I don't know if they are still used or if Honda uses them. Anyhow this thing used engine vacuum to determine a shift point or something. It essentially was a pin driven by a diaphram. Well if the diaphram got a pin hole leak it, it could slowly suck the fluid out of the transmission. That probably is a long shot but I would at least ask about it.
