Third generation of model is lower, larger and has undergone a complete redesign

From its 1997 debut in Japan, Honda's CR-V has been thought of as a small truck-type vehicle. Ten years later, the third-generation CR-V has more of a passenger sedan-like look to it.

It's lower, with a centre of gravity dropped 35 millimetres from the 2006 model. It's wider, adding 30 mm between the front wheels. And the wheels themselves are larger, 17-inchers compared to last year's 16s, making it look lower and more car-like.

As the market moves away from truck-style vehicles, the CR-V is not alone in making the transition to segment-blending crossover.
