they mess with your fuel map. It will increase power a bit, but at what cost? A programamble one on a dyno is the only way to go. BTW 75whp from a base map chip, is BS.

I've heard all these things consist of ia a resistor that fools the MAS into running a richer fuel mixture. A waste of money IMO!

Yeah I figured. I never installed it coz something didnt feel right. It's all good. I feel silly but at least im a fool among those who care for thier vees as I do mine. Great advice, I am now thinking of accelerating my engine mod schedule by saving up for my skunk 2 intake manifold/setup.

What would you all suggest I do to compliment the wider intake manifold - apart from a catback/muffler upgrade? I have already installed a K&N air filter and seen teeny gains in hp. (didnt expect that much anyway)

Please advise ASAP. My budget/saving starts...... NOW

I say get a hondata k pro system with a good tuner, (dyno) after intake, header, exaust, intake manifold, ect.

For all your input here and in other sections too.

The Honda k system you are talking about, can u point me in the right direction? Where do I get it and what does it consist of? Price range?

Sorry to bother u with so many questions, I am really quite new to the mod scene (under the hood) and most of my mods/upgrades have been external.

Thanks again!

p/s: I will be taking photos of my engine soon, so I can start to map out my mod schedule and post up my progress as we go along. Maybe that will even help me get better advice from the folks here.

the company Hondata makes it (www.hondata.com). You modify your own ecu and add it in, but it must be installed and imediately tuned on the dyno by a hondata certified installer/tuner like www.inlinepro.com

K-pro is just the K series engine version of hondata. IMO it is the best way to go for anyone with a honda that is and is not pro, next to pro's with stand alone systems/coilpacks ect.

Sorry for bumping this thread up but don't waste your money on these. I was thinking about getting a performance chip too, but it looks like these things don't do crap. I was reading this chip article (http://www.performancechiptuning.com/) about it, and it looks like these things don't work at all

Everyone's known they've been a resistor for a long time. My friend recently bought one for $60 without consulting me, and then he went ahead and installed it (somewhere near the intake) it had a knob on it that you could "adjust" to "trick" the engine into thinking the air was colder. I asked him to take it off so I can loo kat what type of "chip" was in it. He did, and I opened the plastic cover to find a resistor behind a screw, the knob was not attached to anything. He was on his E-mail shoveling E-mails out to the company. They did not give him a refund.:D he learned. It's funny because it shows a picture of the "chip" opened up on the website with some kind of processor on it.

He also doesn't do to well with cars. "my Eclipse had like 180hp stock, and now with the intake mod, and the chip, it's doing about 280hp".

I just let it go and let him have his immagination.

dave why are you telling everyone what i did?!?! hah just kidding, but these are crap i got one at a "good" price to try it, i installed it but when nothing happened i proceeded to chew the guys ears off so to speak, i actually ended up making a few bucks profit becuase he paid the "unusually high" return shipping cost i told him, becuase he did not want the bad publicity i promised. no to mention i did some research and got his name, address, place of business, kids names, his myspace page, home phone, good map of his house, and a few other goodies.

Hey guys,

I have searched and read a lot of the threads, but can't find my answer. Hopefully you guys don't mind answering it for me.

Ebay performance chip

Basically people are saying it is just a small 10cent resistor, but has anyone tried something like this? I want to know if it works and if there are instructions online.

This way I could save some money and not purchase a 10cent item :)

Thanks a bunch!

actually, they get them in bulk so it doesn't even add up to 1 cent a piece

Actually, if you think about it, a different intake setup will run you about $150, and it gets you maybe 2 or 3 hp... so if $150 = 2-3 then 1 cent for 0Hp seems like a GREAT DEAL! ;)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction you guys :)

I just really need something that will boost a few miles for me since I drive a lot of local.

What can I do for cheap that could increase my MPG?

I have read air filter and the type of oil can help, but I am hoping there are other methods. I'm not a heavy driver, but I get around 22mpg right now.

Serj22
09-27-2009, 02:53 AM
22 is about what you should get. The Numbers in the window papers were under wind pushing you on flat ground conditions slightly downhill. Some things you can do is keep driving conservatively, and get rid of your luggage rack if you have one. Nothing you add will really give you any more mileage.

wildfxp
09-27-2009, 03:23 AM
Thanks for your help. I drive VERY conservatively, but I guess the local driving hurts the MPG. I was hoping I could raise it up to 25MPG (the stated mpg average), but the highest I have gotten is about 23.5.

Anyways, this is still a lot better than my old car which also received about 270-300 total miles, but at 17-18 gallons rather than the CRV's 13-14gallon fillup.

in my experience more power usually means less fuel economy. More air=more fuel needed for combustion. If you want whp that is proven and adjustable, that will get gains on a stock car or a 8 sec 1/4 mile drag car, just get a hondata system

Is it true that that system only works on manual transmission cars?

I know. I keep driving sticks and wishing my car had one. I think I'm going to undertake the 6spd MDX tranny swap that a lot of people have done at the Element owners club. Same car essentially.

It's not a complete tranny swap. It is just installing the 6th gear from a TSX in the Elements 5speed tranny.

If you were to install the MDX tranny you may as well swap in the V6 to go with it. :D

I have a Ls1 in the garage still, and ultimately, that's what's going in. It came from a Chevy stock car race car. It was supposed to go in a boat, but the project fell through.

I just want a 6 speed. No V6 necessary. There's got to be a way to do it. I can find the interior panels for the manual, and get it in there. Nothing I'm unfamiliar with, though it may be odd for a front wheel drive. I did it on My Jimmy, auto to manual, but that was just drilling out the floor, getting rid of some wiring, etc... still pretty hard though.

as "tachboy" once said, it'll blow your **** right out of the water. Literally. I don't know if it would fit but people put them in a lot of different cars, and it would definitly have to be mounted as a RWD naturally. Stock it is supposed to have 400 hp...

We'll see if it works, but I'm not mounting it till I move. Engine swaps are illegal in Ca... Then I have to build a frame for the car...
