... but have signed the papers.
2002 CR-V LX 2WD, picking it up this evening.
I'm looking forward to having a Honda in the stable again. Currently, we have a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 2WD V-6 (decent car, but getting 13 mpg on my commute SUCKS) and a 2005 Mazda 3i (really nice car). We had a 1996 Odyssey that we bought used and drove into the ground (in a good sense). I still miss it, and until we got the Mazda, it was easily the best car I ever had.

Only concern with the CR-V is probably the reason I got a good deal: it smells like the previous owners carted around large dogs in it. Large wet dogs. Not too bad, since we own dogs and they'll be riding in the CR-V. We'll see what a cookie-sheet full of baking soda does, and my co-worker's dad's trick of cutting an apple up and letting the pieces dry in the car over a few days. Or I could google "activated charcoal 50lb bag" I guess.

I'm heading out right now to close the deal & write the check. And start figuring out what to put in that gaping hole in the dash. Car-puter, anyone?

p.s. - I'm in Dallas, TX. Need to update my profile...

Go to the store and look in the carpet cleaning products; Arm & Hammer makes a "pet fresh" version of their sprinkle on powder that helps eliminate pet urine\stink stains. I have used this in my car with EXCELLENT results.

Good luck. It's not easy to get foul odors out of carpets. I bet the dealer has tried already.

(Anyone remember the Seinfeld episode with Jerry's BMW? :D )

'Bet they didn't (not too hard, at least). Getting the stink out usually takes time - something most dealers aren't interested in. Get it in, Armor All it, and get it out.

p.s. - signed the papers, it's now mine, picking it up tomorrow at lunch. Now watch the dealership burn down overnight and consume "my" car with it...

OK, I picked it up today at lunch. Currently parked in the sun, with newspapers, Greensheets, and free apartment locator newspapers spread out in it. Oh, well, if I can't get rid of the smell, it'll be that much easier to let my teenager drive it! :) Now, gotta get started modding it up...

Congratulations on your V. Just figure it has some atmosphere. Good luck with it and welcome to the club.

The "old car smell" is almost gone. Dog smell, too. My co-worker's dad's suggestion worked like a charm - two apples, cut into quarters, placed on paper plates for a week. Now we've got some incense sticks (not lit...) wedged into a couple of spots. That seems to work OK too.

I've used my home steam carpet cleaner on my other SUV every couple of years and it has worked out great. You'd be amazed at how much dirt is accumulated. If you do this couple of times if needed, it will make a huge difference. This reminds me that I probably need to do this either this weekend or next if the weather cooperates. It is fun and really rewarding afterwards. I've got to mow the lawns and trim the edges and steam clean my other SUV. It is going to be fun!

I gotta get me one of those! my youngest puppy Lucky (boxer- 4 months) has thrown up in my car twice!!! she gets car sick... I had a blanket on the seats but she just happened to vomit on the spot the blanket wasn't covering.. I've tried scrubbing it out (it doesn't smell anymore thank goodness) but i'd love to get it extra clean.... the apple quarters sound good... I love apple smell...the air fresheners that i have in my car now are apple pie haha

Be careful with car air fresheners. A member last summer had one ooze some crap down on to the shifter bezel. It ate the paint off the plastic. He had to replace the panel.

i use the nice tree air fresheners they sit on my turn signal handle... I remember that thread with the liquid air fresheners taking the paint off the shifter bezel...
