Leave it to Honda to introduce a sport utility vehicle that has only a four-cylinder engine and retains seating for five.

This isn't a criticism. The revised, 2.4-liter, dual overhead cam four cylinder in the 2007 Honda CR-V works competently to power Honda's revamped, third-generation compact SUV.

But it's just like Honda to go its own way - and keep focused on fuel economy - while other auto makers add less gas-thrifty V-6s and third-row seating to their competing small SUVs such as Toyota's current RAV4 and Mitsubishi's new-for-2007 Outlander.

But isn't that the reason there is a Pilot? If the V doesn't cut it for you...

6200 miles.
19 mpg city
23.5 mpg hwy - 1500 mile flatland road trip, cruise control, no a/c interstate.

Tycer - Don't be discouraged. It isn't broken in yet. Now, to help it along and make it a long-living Honda engine, run the heck out of it for one or two tankfuls of fuel. Rev it up good a bunch of times, under full throttle load - Not at idle. The break-in proceedure listing gentle driving is for the rest of the car's mechanical parts, not the engine. At 6200 miles, the rest of the V is already broken in. Your Honda engine was designed to rev high, not putter along.
