Two return trips, two overnights; selling/servicing dealer can't locate source of "tapping" noise from left front cowling area:confused: They acknowledge the noise, tried a few things but "tapping" still exists... They scratched the front fender and drivers door on the last trip:mad:
When it rains(water runs down/in the cowling grate) the "tapping" stops until the area dries out then it returns....I even poured about a half gallon of water down the cowling grate and was temporarily able to stop the noise..
Any thoughts..????
Not returning to that "butcher shop:mad:

From your description of the tapping noise being near the left front cowl, have you checked for leaves, small twigs, etc. that may have fallen into the cowl area? This is relatively common for many cars. You may have to pull the black plastic piece under the wipers (remove wiper arms, etc.) to check. If water solves the issue for a while, I'll bet you have something stuck in there.

You will have to start pulling things off to find the source. Who knows where or for how long the car sat outside between Japan and your location. Anything could be in there. It could be something from the factory too. Whatever you find, let the tech and your service advisor know what you found. It may help someone else later on.

For-what-it's-worth...Discovered "tapping noise" stops during rainy periods..Didn't know if the sound of the rain was "drowning out" the noise or it was actually eliminating it.. Noise was NOT there after the rain stopped but the cowling and area below was still wet...Noise returned after area dried out. I then poured some water into the cowling grid; test drive NO NOISE..Evidently the water is lubing the problem/area...???
ANY IDEAS...???...???
ANYONE...

Start by taking off the wipers and the front plastic piece over the cowl. This is the best pic I can find so far on it and it isn't great to say the least. My guess is something is under the plastic cowl piece (which is the fresh air intake area). Leaves make a noise like that on both of our V's from time to time. Open the hood and start looking around.
If I can find a better image or drawing of the area, I'll get it posted for you.

May give this a try when we return from Fla.
In addition; rocking the vehicle from side to side makes the "noise"(when dry)
Your expertise is much appreciated on this matter....

Thanks. My "expertise" on this matter simply means I have 2 V's that both get stuff into the cowl area on a frequent basis, especially in the fall. It is a really common issue that people have.
