Found an oil leak on the garage floor and brought the car into the dealer. Suspects a malfunction in the main rear engine seal. So much for the vaunted Japanese quality control.

Bummer, Norm. Keep us posted on what you find out.

Gee. Not good news. Read about two owners with the same problem on the other forum. Both were given a replacement vehicle.

Been reading about multiple problems with rear ends. On other message boards, Edmund's and even our newspaper. All 2007 Japan built CR-V's. Not the greatest news for Honda, is it? And, not all owners are getting the same treatment. Some are being offered extended warranties.

Is the rear end in 07 4WD's different to previous years?

Not to defend Honda, but of course ALL of the rear differential issues were with Japan assembled ones - that's the only place they were assembled until this fall. US assembled vehicles are being sent to Canada at this point.

If you look closely at the posts on those other boards, the number of people with the issue are relatively few compared to how many others report no issue and the number of new people reporting the issue has died off almost completely in the last few weeks.

Because of some state laws that affect new vehicles and "damage", I suspect that Honda did not bother to tell dealers which vehicles were affected because doing a repair on an un-sold vehicle requires disclosure to the consumer.

It would be nice, however, if Honda would bother to issue any type of statement as to what VIN's were affected and what the real issue was.
Total silence and denial when you call Honda Corporate is BS. They are quite aware of the issue. This is what I expect out of Ford.

There are a couple recent posts with problems. Of course I don't know what the total number would be. Not every new owner is a member of that forum. So, if for example 10 posters mention it, what could the total number of affected vehicles be? I don't even want to guess.

I bet the majority of Honda SUV owners are not members on that forum. I'm not, yet have been an owner for 2 years. Just browse occasionally. And only recently registered here.

You're right. And it's my fault. Sorry. This was about an oil leak.
I should not have brought the other isuue into this.

Purchased 12/23/06. On 12/30/07 noticed oil on floor & took it to nearest
Honda dealer, not the one I bought it from as I did not want to drive too
far not knowing the cause of the leak. Tentively diagnosed as rear main
engine seal leak. Dealer rep told me NOT to drive it home to wait for the
parts to come in as I might experience other problems. Parts to be ordered
1/2/07.

The rear main engine seal was replaced on 1/4/07 and on 1/6 I found oil on
the garage floor. This repair was done by the closest Honda dealer not the
one I bought the car from. Which dealer do I go back to for further repair
in order to possibly qualify for replacement or money back under the Lemon
Law?

I suggest the original dealer would be best.

I also have a week old CRV-EXL in the shop with an oil leak. The dealer replaced the oil pan gasket which he said was definitely leaking, but that didn't cure the problem. It seems he now suspects the main engine oil seal.

Big type-o there that's I would expect this from GM (Junkyard Motors) not FordNo typo. I have had plenty of both marques as well as numerous friends. Ford quality and endurance is nowhere near GM's.
