Last week I had my '97 V well off the beaten path in an area near my home that is notorious for offroading. It's mostly pickups and Jeeps that frequent the trail, so I entertained a lot of "Turning Heads" when I showed up in a Honda.

My first stop was a place called "Swift Rapids"
Swift Rapids Road, Ontario - Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Swift+Rapids+Road,+Ontario&sll=50.625073,-95.712891&sspn=32.21385,92.8125&ie=UTF8&z=12&iwloc=addr)

This is a 15km section of trail that leads through some amazing back country scenery and mildly technical navigation.

Also visited was a spot of land near Magnetawan, Ontario. Certainly more technical and more fun!
Spring Lake, Ontario - Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Spring+Lake,+Ontario&sll=50.625073,-95.712891&sspn=32.21385,92.8125&ie=UTF8&ll=45.829756,-79.838676&spn=0.137554,0.362549&z=12)

Here are some pictures of my adventures!

LOVE THE PICS
ahaha dirt is sexy! nice!

I can't wait to find some unpaved roads to take pics on.
I'm guessin if I go north (from toronto) for an hour or 2 I'll find something.

The "Swift Rapids" road is easily navigatable by your V. Its about 30 mins North of Orillia Ontario and the trip into the rapids is not scary, just fun! The trip from the end of the main road to rapids will take you about an hour at about 30km/hr avg.

Here is a video of the toughest crossing I had to do on this trip. No problems:

Stock height indeed. I haven't measured it, but what is it, around 9 inches?

I'd like to get that exhaust pipe raised up a little where it crosses the drive shaft. I've seen the same exhaust height drop on other Gen1 V's. Maybe I'll start a new post elsewhere. lol.

Dude, that's not a water crossing. That's a puddle on a dirt road. WTF?

Nice pics! What Pirellis are those, are they Scorpion ATRs?

Todd05CRV:

lol! You're right... it is actually not as challenging as a true water crossing. Were it a true water crossing, I probably wouldn't have hit it doing 60! That point on the trail is actually called "The Water Crossing" as in the springtime, the lake rises up over the road to about 2.5 to 3 feet in most spots. At this time of year, its just fun to splash around in as in my video.

Alpine:

They are indeed the Scorpion ATR's. What a magical set of rubber. They really are the best set of rubber I have put on any vehicle, bar-none. Had 'em for just over 3 months now, on and off road. I'm just sorry I couldn't get the whitewalls on my size!

I've got the Pirelli Scorpion STR (highway terrain version).

How do you find the road noise from the ATRs in your gen 1? I thought the STRs were kinda noisy...or at least not as quiet as I expected them to be when I got them.

I'm also interested in how you find the Scorpion ATRs generally and specifically the noise, ride & dry/wet grip. Can you share more info. What size do you have?

I haven't much thought about road noise. To be fully honest, I have never driven a good car with good tires that would give me a "Quiet" comparison. I took it to task though and gave 'er a listen. They definitely give off some road noise on dry pavement. I would hardly deem them loud though by any means. It's not enough to drown out conversation in any capacity, and certainly not noticible over a quiet radio level. With all sound turned off and the ventilation turned right off, only then could I make out the slight drone, and even at that, it only really is noticible at high speeds; highway, not city.

The traction both wet and dry is crazy. At first I was hesitant to drop into the corners real fast, but I got more and more brave, and they haven't given in to slippage yet, unless I prompt them to. I find that with the realtime AWD, I am able to actually powerslide through some corners when its good and wet.

As the pictures indicate, they are amazing on mid to moderate mud and gravelstomping. I deflated the tires to about 20psi while on this trip and never feared once for their safety or gripping ability. Rocks, sand, mud, water. None of it gave me any troubles. I probably wouldn't drop into a true mudhole and expect them to conquer. The ATRs definitely add confidence to this ride. Unfortunately I do a tonne of highway driving so I will probably wear through them faster than most. That might be a consideration for my next tire purchase, but for now, its a seriously fair trade for their dirt travel ability.

Size is stock for the Gen1 at 205/70R15.
