So, I was curious what the little computerized instant fuel economy guage would peg out at on my 08' CRV. I figured it would be 99mpg but I was wrong. Recently I was driving the Blue Ridge Parkway in western NC. I reset the mileage computer and began a 10 mile decent from the Parkway. The first 7 miles were very steep and I did not have to even touch the gas pedal. I was amazed when the computer display kept climbing and climbing and eventually maxed out at 112 mpg, before I had to press the accelerator pedal. I suspect, with more road and speed, it would have continued to climb....

Near home there is a ridge line that is about 250 ft above the river level. With a 4 mile run down.
Reset the MPG at the top and letting the V coast down -- gets to about 75 / 80 mph. About half way down the first readout is 150 MPG. Not enough run out to really effect the range calculation.

Just a thought. Not based on any real idea of what is going on.

By definition, MPG is Miles covered divided by Gallons used or burned.

As you go coasting down faster and faster (in neutral) the numerator or miles increases really really fast momentarily. Before a really loud crash.

On the divisor end of the equation, or gallons, you use just enough to keep the engine running without stalling or creating a lot of emissions. As regulated by the software algorithm the computer uses to inject fuel. And the IVEC no doubt?

Divide a momentarily really big number by a really small one and you start approaching infinity.

Unless limited by software in the MPG calculation or by the sample rate, if there are 2 digits, at the extreme it will approach 99 MPG.
With three digits it would be 999 MPG
With four digits it would be 9999 MPG and so on.

Now that would be an efficiently green V!

This is based on purely simple division without software limits or any factual experience.
Just kind of being a wise ass.

Now do not go down a hill like a bat out of hell to see how high it will go.

Turning power off will not work other than maybe putting you in the hospital really fast!

Just curious to know what your gas mileage was when going up the hill. I know what you mean about going downhill for miles without having to touch the gas, but you have already paid for it when you were climbing up the hill.

downhill the motor is not even have to do anything.... I reset my gauge in the highway once and i get 150 MPG of course it drop to 35 mpg as soon i step on the gas....

So is the max it displays 150?
Anyone gone past that?

Only when pulling a 2500 pound trailer while coasting downhill.

:D

Sorry. Couldn't resist! I've been watching your other posts...
