I have heard of people putting 20's on, but I can't imagine that to be very practicle. Even with a super low profile tire, any amount of weight in the V would make them rub.

Well, they are 17". The R you make mention of is a part of the tire size, not the wheel. It simpy stands for "radial".
I would simply go to tirerack.com
Put in your vehicle info and get nearly instant views of what different wheel/tire combos will look like on your V. You can even change the color of the vehicle to match yours. It's a great tool for comparing. Better yet, if you call tirerack - they have really good tire/wheel people and they will have the specs available.

I have had 20s on my car and I have had 17s. Never rubbed with either.

20s is the largest unless you are willing to go thru some work haveing the car lifted! I currently have low pro 20s on mine

Be carefull using tire rack toi get the tire sizes with aftermarket wheels. I used them for my 17s and the size they listed were too tall.
