Just thought I would share my thoughts about our 08 CRV. Purchased in 3/08 and driven 8200 miles so far. This is an outstanding, versitile SUV that drives and handles like a car. In the 7 months had 1 service oil change. The dealer was for that 1 service excellent. The CRV has been flawless. Holds lots of stuff, comfortable, braking, handling are all excellent.

We considered several different SUV's - test drove all: ford, mazda, mercedes, bmw, (had to have navigation - nissan rogue didn't) and the CRV was the last one we drove and bought it. Everything seems perfectly balanced. Priorities for purchase were safety, reliability, quality, mpg, storage.

Have averaged about 24 mpg in mixed driving overall, seen as high as 29mpg on the highway at 70-75mph (a/c on) and as low as 19.8 mph with quick short city trips (a/c on). This SUV cruises easily at illegal speeds (85mph - 90mph), with confidence and secure road manners. Power, off the line 0-45mph feels very swift, above 55mph gets a bit slow - especially loaded, however it is not a sports car, if you need that extra power push the overdrive button on the automatic to off, drops to 3rd gear and you have more than enough power for passing, merging, etc., even at speeds above 60mph the engine sings to redline. That is always the fun part.

The SDCard music option with the Nav touch screen is outstanding. Like the touch screen better than our 08 Accords idrive concept. We bought our 08 Accord in August because we loved the CRV so much.

A few recommendations to Honda, why put the additional power outlet and mp3 jack in the center console between the seats, kind of useless (08 Accord we have, they did the same thing there), no rear air vents in the center console, more cubby storage for cargo area and they should have put the 190hp in the CRV. Fog lights should be standard on the EXL w/Nav. That is a bit cheap for not including on an SUV completely loaded.

Overall this SUV is great.

WOW! I could have written that review myself! Spot on, especially your comments about what could/should have been done/included in an EX-L w/Nav!

Nice review, and welcome aboard!

I wish instead of the Civic's engine, that we had the turbo-charged engine from the Acura RDX as an "option." Ah, a CR-V Si... :D

I'd prefer the 34 MPG 2.2L TDI personally!

I thought our engine was more closely related to the Accord engine.

Your engine is a K24Z1. The current (2008) Accords use K24Z2 and K24Z3 engines. Later model Civics (since 2001) use variety of R18 series and K20 engines (very dependent on year and market).

2.2l TDI has my vote. Frankly, that is exactly what we hoped would be coming in the 2009 model. When one comes out, if the gas mileage improves significantly, I'll trade out for one!

I heartily agree with all the above recommendations for improvements. Pretty strange to buy the top of the line EX-L and not get fog lights standard. Not that they are a no go for purchase, but odd.

I have noticed the in 2007 models CRV , the DVD navi supplied for USA had map information outdated by 3-4 years .. Has this been rectified in 2008 DVD Navi Maps... I have a 6.56 version of DVD. What version is supplied in the 2008 Models of CRV ..

It's 6.62. I just checked it last night. I had a similar problem with the navi system on the Mazda5 we just traded in. Even though it was a 06, the navi DVD was date 04.

Your options are limited... you can try ebay or buy one from the Honda.

First post!

Nice review! I would love to have one of these. I currently drive an 08 Civic Si coupe w/navi but my girl needs a car and I want something A/T and comfortable to drive on the weekends. We're probably going to end up with a CR-V or an Accord sedan.

I have yet to drive one but I'm on my 4th Honda so I'm fine with Honda.

Leonard we've had all 3 generations in our extended family.

I find that family members with G1 'vs don't like the styling of the later cars. I had a G2 'v first and really liked it. Just bought a g3 'v and it's incredible!

But the real message is that the CR-V is a great car, and if you're like me, it will grow on you!

Is there a place where I can purchase a factory navigation system for my 08 CRV EX-L? I would like to upgrade my 6-disc factory radio w/ XM but not interested in installing an aftermarket because the factory navigation systems are not as attractive to car stereo thieves. Unfortunately, I have had two cars broken in to in my neighbordood in the past and I don't want to go through the hassle of replace radios and/or windows again for that matter.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
