My husband and I just bought our new 2009 CRV and will be picking it up next week. We want to have the dealer install the rear spoiler on the car. We are concerned that the spoiler will possibly cause a problem when trying to open the trunk if 2 16 foot kayaks are on the roof. Will there be enough clearance between the spoiler and the kayaks for the trunk to open fully?? Any info would be helpful! Thank you! :)

I have neither a spoiler or a roof rack so I can't say for sure, but my guess would be that it is certainly possible. The hatch door may hit them regardless of whether you have a spoiler or not. This comment is based on my experience in my mother's garage. She has low ceiling in her garage. If I open the hatch, it will hit her ceiling. I had to throw an old blanket over the hatch to leave it open in her garage. I think her ceiling has more clearance than the roof rack would.

If you mount the kayaks sideways, the curvature of the bow or stern may rise the hull enough to give clearance.

Check out 07exlowner's avatar. He has a spoiler.

BTW if you are handy you can buy the accessories off of one of the many dealers that sell Honda accessories on line at a discount and install them yourself. HandA is one such dealer and they also are sponsors of our club. HandA sells the same genuine Honda accessories that your dealer sells, but at a discount and there is no labor (well with the slight disavantage that you have to install it yourself). We have had several members install the spoiler themselves and said it was not difficult. It does require drilling into the car--something I am loathe to do myself, but fortunately I don't want a spoiler. I have made about 4 purchases from HandA and have no complaints, nor have I ever seen any complaints with HandA on this forum. They have a monthly special for only CRV-OC members, Octobers has not been decided yet:

There are other on line vendors as well but personally I have no experience except with HandA. Bernardi, San Leandro, College Hills, and Majestic are names that come to mind.

Here is HandA's website for CR-V accessories:

Here are the instructions for installing the spoiler:

Welcome to the club, and good luck with your new CR-V.
