Hello all,

I would appreciate some input. The original Honda battery in my 04 CRV is dying. I checked Consumer Reports who just had a report on the best batteries, and the only ones they recommend for battery life, cranking power, etc, believe it or not, is the Wal-Mart Everstart Maxx, which is also the most reasonably priced! I went to 3 Wal-Marts today, and guess what? They don't make an Everstart Maxx to fit a CRV!! They can only offer a downgrade straight Everstart, cheaper, and not recommended by Consumer Reports. Now what? The only other battery even mentioned, but is not in the CRV category either, is the Diehard Platinum at $180, which is no better than the $75 Wal-Mart Everstart Maxx. Any ideas? Also, just in the last week my CRV has begun shuddering while driving. (Not cold, and at any speed, it has only done it a few times, and it usually only lasts about 5 or 6 seconds. I took it to Honda, and they said there was nothing they could even check for, since the engine light isn't on. The battery tested bad. Could a bad battery be causing the shuddering? Bad gas? Dirt in the line? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dustman

It's been my experience that batteries will last OK if the connections are clean. A cheaper battery (such as the "plain" Everstart) may not last as long (probably has less CCA or Cold Cranking Amps) but should still give you several years of good service.

As for the shuddering, that's a bit more difficult to diagnose remotely. How many miles (or KM) on your 04?

Do you have an automatic? Has the trans fluid ever been replaced? How many miles ago?

Does the engine seem to take longer to warm up?

Does the shudder happen around turns (as, in a parking lot)?

I too am ready for a battery to replace the stock Panasonic in my 03 V with 61000 miles on it. It tested low at the recent oil change and I don't know what brand to put in it.

I called the local Wallyworld and they have the Everstart for $70, but I would not want to go ahead and buy it and later find out I should have gotten another brand.

What batteries are being used and should I really care on a stock V with no extra electronics?

Ok, so you guy should skip on putting in the same size battery for the second gen. I wish i had gone the other route and put in the biggest battery that fit, because the battery in the car stock is a joke. I bought a replacement from cosco for $70 and it works just fine, but I wish I had gotten something bigger.

I looked into replacement battery for the CRV and the 2 I looked into was Yellow Top - they are know for their deep cycle and long lasting capacity, they have been around and have a good reputation. The 2nd brand was from Tirerack called Braille battery - from what info I can get from the rack they seems to offer good cranking amps at a reasonable price, plus they are from tirerack so the quality should be decent.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with braille battery from the rack can offer some opinions on them.

I'm going to say I have never ever heard of that company.

I have the Everstart in my crv for five years now. It says Johnson Controls. The Optima Yellow top is manufactured by them also. The Die Hard is made by them also. You can do a search make ur battery last longer by adding some white powder. I do not remember the name of the powder. It is called sodium tetra********. Google or search : Battery FAQ. You will probably find what ur looking for about batteries and the white powder stuff.
