View Full Version : LX to an EX

I just bought a new 2007 LX a few days ago. I chose the LX because I don't use a sunroof, don't need the fancy wheels, and the 4 speakers sounded OK. And all the safety features are included in the LX anyways.

However, I do wish I had the volume controls on the steering wheel, and it turns out the switches cost only 40 bucks.

But before I take the steering wheel apart, it would be good to know...
1) is remote volume possible with the Clarion radio in the LX ?
2) is the wiring already in the steering wheel ?
3) are the tweeders on the dash pre wired (since they are so cheap too!) and can the LX radio handle these extra 2 speakers?

I have looked at the online parts diagrams, but I don't know if Honda intentionaly makes this conversion impossible. I would like to know before I start diggin in.

Anyone know or have an opinion?

Thanks

That's a bad and blurry pic. I am trying to find you a better one somewhere..

1. Not sure without some extra checking, but probably not.
2. Wiring, maybe. Honda tends to pre-wire for about everything, at least they did in the past. You may have to pull the cover to check - if you do - DISCONNECT THE BATTERY and follow the airbag proceedure FIRST.
3. I don't think the tweeters are cheap. You need parts, 1,11,5 (6) at $45 per side from discount online dealer slhondaparts.com.

You would need part number 1, $46 and it looks like the wiring harness is already there, part number 6, becaue the cruise control is part of it already. You reuse the 2 screws, part number 18. You need to check to make sure.

:) Great response thanks.

I was hoping you would say "they pre-wire everything". The only issue then is that the cheaper radio in the LX may not even have capability for remote control. If not then obviously there is no point.

They "used to" pre-wire everything. You will need to check. I know that the 06 EX's did not have the wiring for heated mirrors, but the SE's did, for starters.

I can personally verify that the wiring harness for the tweeters are not there on the LX

Any updates to this thread? Has anyone attempted this yet? When we get our LX, I anticipate doing this and the auto-dimming mirror right off the bat.

What do you mean by airbag procedure? what needs to be done before you attempt to put the audio controls on the steering wheel?

it may be in the owners manual.
you really don't want the airbag going off while you're working on the steering wheel. it could ruin your whole day.
so, disconnect the battery and wait some number of minutes, probably called out in the owners manual.

I can verify that it's not in the owners manual because I was going to do the same thing today and after reading this decided to double check this site to see if anyone had done it. I dont know why the airbags would deploy for this simple plasic piece being removed.....that would be crazy.

Talked to a Honda service manager today. He told me if you disconnect the battery the airbags will not go off.
