Hi, glad to find this forum. I had bought a 2008 Civic, but was disappointed with its too-soft suspension and seat discomfort, so I traded it for an '08 CR-V. I am bemoaning the step down in gas mileage, but you can't have everything, right?! I like being off the ground and the visibility, which is why I didn't want an Accord, even though its gas mileage is better. Anyhow, hi from Mississippi!

Welcome aboard!

I was looking at the Civic, but I chose the CR-V because I wanted to sit up higher for safety and visibility reasons.

My mother and I both brought new Hondas on the same day last march- She brought a civic. Unfortunately, I bought the crv- starting having trouble 6 weeks later- been to the dealer at least 6 times- LEGAL ACTION!

Welcome to the club! Sorry to hear you are having trouble. What exactly is the problem with your V? Maybe someone here can offer some suggestions or relate a similar experience. If you don't mind, could you tell us about the legal action you are pursuing?

Most of us are quite fortunate and have no trouble with our CR-Vs, yet lemons do happen. Share your experience with us.

Again welcome to the club, and sorry to hear of your displeasure with your V. Good luck with the legal action.

This is a first. I've heard of lemon cars - I supposed this can happen, inquiring minds though - you're disappointed with your CRV - what was your review of your moms Civic? 6 times since March - if it's the same problem - that the dealer is unable to fix -I would say you might have a fighintg chance -but there are other rules on the lemon law. Now if it's 6 times with 6 different problems - can you enlighten us with those problems - might have an easy fix.
I've had this annoying problem 1 year after I bought my new then 03 CRV, every 6 months or so -the engine belt would make a squeaking noise especially when it rains or when I wash the car -occasional water in the engine bay since it is open on the underside - almost feels like that the belt was worn out -so everytime - the dealer would replace the belt for free of course - under warranty. After 4 times and almost of this 3 years happening -I finally ask the dealer if the could replace the belt tensioner - because my warranty was running out - of course I had to do some assertive persuasion to the dealer but they did it anyway - have been problem free since.
So the problem could be the dealer also.

Welcome to the forum! I have an '08 as well and I love it. My mother bought an '08 Civic and so far she has no complaints except that it's hard to see (can't see the hood, so she can't judge). I love being up high - I don't think I can ever go back to a car!! Anyway, I hope you are happy with your switch. Keep us posted!

I have read about several members having bad experiences with their V.
No details have been given though. Was it finally fixed? Were we crying wolf or having too high expectations?

No manufacturer is ever 100% trouble free. It is easy to say so naturally when you are in the other 99% satisfied group. But it is true!

We may be spoiled with such high levels of reliability today so that when something comes up - the response is not really warranted.

Often it is a dealer and how the problem is handled that is at fault. Not Honda USA nor the CR-V model or design.

Please let us know what you are so irate about. It might be an issue some one here has gone through and we might have suggestions. At times too many but we might be able to help. :)

One of the things to remember with any on-line car forum, you generally hear from two groups of people: those that are very happy with their cars, and those who are not. You don't hear from the silent majority of owners who are satisfied with their purchase, but are not gooney about it!

Of course there is the third group: the lunatic fringe (we know who we are)!

Try an interesting experiment:

Click on the Member Lists then click on the "Posts" at the top of the Posts columns. This arranges the members by the number of posts. I paged back through and here is how we stack up at the CRV-OC.

7025 Total Members

22 members have more than 200 posts

24 members have more than 100 but less than 200 posts

49 members have more than 50 but less than 100 posts

430 members have more than 10 but less than 50 posts

1800 members have more than 1 but less than 10 posts

1230 members have 1 post

3407 members have never posted

I am not a statician or demographic expert but you look at the numbers above and there is a staggering number (6437) of members who have less than 10 posts. That represents 85.5% of the members. The number of members with over 100 posts is 0.6% of the entire membership (we are the lunatic fringe in one way or another!)

My guess here is that 85.3% of our members are satisfied with their cars or joined when they first got the car and promptly forgot about it.

Interesting.
I never though I was on the fringe of the fringe group!
But you are absolutely right.
Practically all opinions on this forum are in the noise (24/7025) or an insignificant proportion of all the members.

But I always knew I was a lunatic! :D

Just got an 08 EXL w/Nav yesterday 115 miles. I think the dealer had a real good deal below the invoice. Traded in my 04 CRV EX (99k miles). So far so good. I am reading up on the Nav and trying to learn how to use it.

Next step for me is to get some of my gadgets back into the car (iPod, Sirius Stilleto 2, Bluetooth) I am sure there are some threads on here so I will look into that.

There are a number of threads, some with photos, several quite detailed, of members installing the various gadgets. So do a search and I think you find quite a few tips and info on the various contraptions.

Welcome to the club, congratulation on your purchase, and good luck with the V!
