2005 stability control question

I'm new to this club, and have a question about the electronic stability control in our 2005. We've had a string of snow storms in Denver, and the car has handled them all well. However, my wife got stuck in some snow today for the first time. I had thought the ESC would also include traction control, but only one wheel on each axle was spinning. With traction control. the spinning wheel should be braked to force power to the gripping wheel, like my son's Accord. Does ESC not include traction control?

The one differance on the 05 and 06 is traction control it is on the 06 but not the 05. I am sure the times when needed are few good luck
