Hi there !

I'm enyoing my MK1 '99 148HP CR-V with 148.000km on it's clock. When I start the engine from cold, the tempetaure indicator moves from the bottom of the range, to the center, staying there at it's optimum level.

But sometimes the indicator falls back to the "cold" level (although slightly above the level where the indicator level shows engine is 100% cold), staying there for a while, and returning some time later back to the middle of the range.

My question is: Is there any known electrical problem on the dashboards of our Mk1 CR-V's, or shall I check that fault on my next mainteinance stop?

Can it be a miscontact, or an defect thermostat ?

Thanks for your help

Regards from Spain !

did you do a cooling system flush recently? if you did, that could be the reason.
maybe you still have some air trapped inside.
if you didn't do any system flush recently - from my experience, based on your year and mileage, most likely a thermostat problem.

Ok.

I shall tell it to my garage then, as I have to carry out the 150.000km maintenance schedule soon.

I got the same problem a few months ago and in my case the thermostat was not working properly. I have not seen if yours is an automatic transmition or not, but if so the overdrive wont engage bellow the proper temperature neither... Anyway it is quite simple and cheap to replace, and Taller Carlos C/ Sobrante 9 28240 Hoyo de Manzanares tef 918 567 378 will fix it in a couple hours.

My vote is for the thermostat.

Honda and most other makers nowadays fit temperature gauges that don't really read the temperature. The readings are accurate only for short periods, the "normal" indication is sort of "fixed" so that owners will not be alarmed as the temp creeps up in traffic etc.

Honda wised up with the Fit...there is a blue COLD light and a red OVERHEAT light but no gauge.

Owners of OBDII loggers like the Scangauge can display the "raw" temp readings.

Just returned from a 600 mile trip around Spain (with snow and bad weather) and the indicator has showed own life

It keeps all the trip moving up and down, from perfect temperature to cold, up and down, up and down. It never moving to hot.

The heating worked perfect, and the O/D was no blocked...

In effect. You were right !. Thermostat was broken and always half open. Just spent 27.40 eur for the new thermostat+27.00 eur workforce.
Problem solved. Thanks for all your comments and help !
