Can I have DRLs on?

I know this may be the opposite question to the other threads I've found in this forum for 06 and newer CRVs.

I'm just curious if there's a DRL option for the 1st gen (2000). I know in some places like Canada, they are required to have DRL. I opened the fuse box inside the car and found a slot that says "DRL" but no fuse in that spot. I was wondering if I put a fuse in it, should the low beam DRLs turn on??

Thanks

Just put a fuse in there and see what happens. But I think that besides the fuse there is a special wiring/harness that may include some relays that make the drl work with only 6 volts instead of 12v and most cars have drl connected to the high beam wires.
Hope you get lucky and make it work with a $0.25 fuse.

In Canada and many other countries drls have been mandatory for many years and if you drive a car without them you can get tickets.

As usual we in the US are way behind in everything, even in south America cars now come with xenon lights and here we still get useless halogen.

US Crv's are not wired for DRL's. The Canadian models have a module that the US models do not have. You would have to go the route of an after market kit to get DRL's.

Oh ok. Is it possible to get the wiring harness or whatever that the Canadian CRVs have and install it in my US V? For my 4Runner, all I had to do was change out the turn signal harness or whatever and I got DRLs to work on my 4Runner (then again the 4Runner's DRL are the turn signals).. Thanks for the info.. Maybe I'll just get my fog lamps installed independently (not connected to the park lights) and just use those when I wish as DRL hehe :D

Good idea.

hehe. Well at least I tried to have OEM DRLs but the 1st Gen wasn't really designed for it I guess lol

Ok quick question. I hope someone will respond to me asap...

I found a DRL relay on ebay.. Canadian owners, can I jst install this relay, slap on those fuses, and will I be able to have DRLs working on my 1st gen??

If so, where do I install the relay? I hope someone will reply to me asap as I am very tempted to buy the module

You have to make sure the wiring for the drl's is there. Your best bet is to get a copy of the service manual...or find someone that has it. There may be spots for the relays in the fuse box....but is there anything hooked up to them. The box maybe labled but if you look closely the contacts to plug the fuses may not be there. I seen this recently on a US Odyssey we had in our shop. The fuse box was almost identical to ours....but the necessary components for DRL's was missing.

At the dealership that i used to work at my electrical specialist used to make his own DRL kits. Any good automotive electrical shop can do the same things. All you need is to wire up a relay to power up the headlamps when the ignition is on.

I don't know how much this wil help...but here is the location for the DRL on a Canadian CRV.

awesome! thats the diagram ive been looking around for. I'll try and look that up after i finish my finals at school but here's my question. I tried to quickly remove the bottom part (where the trunk opener is at) and i didnt want to pull that piece down with all my might, but do i pull the piece down or towards me? I dont want to break any plastic clips or whatever..

Secondly, do i need to remove the part where the air vent is, and the power window controls are at? Or can i see the DRL (if there is) relay area by just removing the lower piece of the dash? Any additional help is appreciated hehe.. i'm a newbie when it comes to modifying which requires removing interior pieces of cars. I used to only modify by adding chrome exhaust tips, and tint hehe:rolleyes:

Well I have a US 98 CRV but I am guessing that the interior plastics are put together the same way.

When I took my dash apart to wire in my cars MP3 player I had to start at the lowest peice on the center console. All of the peices are layered like house shingles onto each other so you will have to use a flathead screw driver to pull out the plastic screws (don't worry they shouldn't break unless you rip them off like you are superman :D) and there are some regular screws and bolts that you will have to take off. Just start at the bottom and work your way up.

Make sure you do not have any leftover screws like I did:D! good luck with this:)
