I've had my 2007 CRV for five days. I commute 50+ miles each way to work and I am feeling every bump in the road. Is this normal with CRVs or is there some adjustment that I could ask the dealer to do? Thanks.

Have you checked the tire pressure? I don't mean with the TPMS - manually, with a real gauge. Too much tire pressure will give a firmer ride and crisper handling at the expense of comfort. Still, it is a small-wheelbase SUV and won't ride as good as a car.

I have experienced the same thing. If I remember correctly, Consumer Reports commented about the rough ride also. Still, I don' find the ride much of a problem.

Hello to all
I own a `99 Japan made CR-V, and almost since a month ago I own a new
2007 CR-V EX with safety pack, english made. My father in law (after my advice) owns a 2006 CR-V.

I also seem to feel that my new CR-V has a rough ride. It`s certainly worse
than the others two, and especially in some specific points of the roads I almost get dizzy. I told the representative of Honda here in Nicosia and he said that perhaps it`s due to the hard tires. (Dunlop ST30 18inch rims). He said that he owns the SE version that has the 17 inch tires with Michelin Latitude and he has no problems. (I also asked about the road noise and he said they are very good. - Mine certainly has excessive road noise).

It`s very weird thing. 30 or 40 reviews I read in the internet and in magazines all say the ride is very good and soft and car-like (they don`t agree about the road noise... )

I don`t know if the springs need some time. I have 1000 km and it doesn`t seem getting any better. I have a 1995 Nissan Primera and I changed the springs and gave it to my mother in law and over the bumps you don`t feel anything.

I don`t know if it`s the tires or the springs. Another experience I have is that in my `99 CR-V I changed the hard and noisy Michelin Sychrone with BFGoodrich Macadam and it was almost like I bought a new car.
But I can`t believe that Dunlop GrandTrek made in Japan can be so faulty.
And when you give an extra 4000 CP (8000$) to buy the top version, you expect it not to be worse than the cheap one.

I`ll talk about all these with the mechanics at the first service. (And some other problems, for example the automatic headlights seem to have a small view distance, although very clear, bright and pleasant light, the plastic cover of the ultra sonic sensors pops out in one corner).

In conclusion, (because I wrote too much stuff), I wasn`t very optimistic about the road noise but from my long research before buying I would expect that the ride should be softer and more car like. At least like the previous generations CR-Vs. If I have any news on this matter of the hard ride I`ll post it here.

Welcome! Cyprus, huh? Can you post a picture of your CR-V with some local to you scenery in it? The US doesn't get 18" wheels or those tires. We get 17" wheels with either a Dunlop or Continental tire.

I think the 18 inch rims are very beautiful but if in combination with the Dunlop tires , they are the cause of the road noise and the rough ride , it`s better that you don`t get them. I`ve been reading this forum for some months now and I also read the whole user manual of the US model and there are some important differences. First of all the european engine is 2 litre, there is no reminder for the services, it seems the representative changes the oil at the first 1500 kms and some other things like the available colors, we have the safety pack etc
Something relevant with the problem mentioned in this thread is the vibrations, especially in the highway with 100 - 115 km/hour (faster is illegal).
I`ll try to take a photo with some local scenery and post it (in the appropriate subforum I guess).
Thanks for the welcome.
Generally I am a fan of the CR-Vs, but I expected more of the new model. Honda made a terrific high tech gadget (for example I ask the car what time it is and it answers :) ) but I don`t know, they should pay more attention to the quality of the ride. Unless there is something wrong with my specific car, because all reviews are thrilled with the ride. Roads here are full of bumps and bad quality asphalt. Perhaps in England don`t have such roads to test it.

Mine came with Bridgestone.

As far as the rough ride....I drive 8 miles one way on a country road to work everyday. While it is not the smoothest ride in the world, I feel that it does feel like an average car. I had a PT Cruiser before this and it was worse riding than the CRV.

Any updates Solsen ? I would assume that your springs and the shocks would have settled by now but I just don't relate to the harsh ride. I have test driven all the major competitors and the CR-V has the best ride and by far not the loudest (Mazda Cx7) in comparison, this even against the MB ML350. I haven't bought mine just yet (today possibly) but I have test driven 4 different 07 CR-Vs.

I agree, it could also have been overinflation of the tires and/or the tire brand themselves. We will be getting Bridgestone's on ours fwiw.

I`ve had the first service on my 2007 CR-V today. They fixed some things but some others couldn`t and left it to see how it goes with time passing.
About the rough ride , we went for a ride with the mechanic with my car but also the car they have for test drives (the same version, with the 18 inch wheels) . The behavior of the suspension on road holes was the same. It seems that the cheaper version with the 17 inch wheels is more comfortable due to the larger wheel profile ( 225/65R17 instead of 225/60R18). At least that`s what the mechanic said. For me this not very logical. Most new cars tend to have smaller wheel profile 50 or 45 and the don`t have a problem. Also, all this advanced suspension technology what does it do? The comfort depends on the tyres?
The strange thing is that in so many reviews everyone says that the 2007`s suspension is greatly improved. Even a cypriot magazine that perhaps tested the same car I was in today. They say that the ride is very comfortable and at the same time controls the car very well.
It seems that the feel for the quality of the ride depends on the person and his condition. When I`m tired or at night I find it more annoying. Perhaps Honda hardened the suspension in order to give better handling on road, on cornerings. I think the reviewers drive fast, they like sport type suspension. So our new CR-V takes the lead in its group in the magazine tests. Of course, I,that don`t corner the car with 100km/h, I would prefer not to feel the road holes and I don`t care if it`s leaning during cornering.

It is an unfortunate aspect of marketing providing what the consumer seems to think they want. Bigger tires and wheels mean smaller aspect ratios which mean the tire sidewall is shorter and has to be much stiffer.

Just wait until the masses start needing to replace those 17 and 18 inch tires. The costs of the bigger tires are much greater than the older 15 and even 16 inch ones.
