View Full Version : Defroster & Pass. Wiper Blade

Dear Honda,
On the 2007 US model, I've found a problem with the windshield defroster reaching the far right lower corner of the windshield where the outer tip of the passenger wiper blade sits.
During a heavy snow with a fair amount of wind a problem can develop.
That part of the glass is below dash level and so far away from the defroster vent that ice builds up quickly and it can start to freeze the rubber blade to that ice buildup while the wipers are working on a delay cycle.
It also causes a good chunk of ice to build up on the tip of the wiper blade which then causes the blade to ride above the windshield instead of on it. This has happened during 3 storms so far and I needed to pull over, get out and chisel that block of ice off the windshield and crack the ice off the blade.
You need to extend that side of the defroster slot over farther to cover more of the glass in that wiper area. OR, maybe offer a "cold weather add-on kit" that would apply electrical defroster grids under the glass in the wiper park areas and tie them into the defroster controls.

Thanks for listening,
Mike

This is one of those things that I can't understand Honda's reasoning on. Way back in 1998, we had a Dodge Caravan that had electric defrosting capabilities for the front windshield. It had 2 or 3 defroster grid lines across the bottom of the widshield and worked great.

I'll bet our Canadian friends would love this.

I agree. Several competitors have those heater wires. Big disappointment that Honda did not put them in a 'totally redesigned' vehicle.

I have had the same problem on both the passenger and driver side windows. I"m still waiting for a call back from my dealer who was supposed to contact the factory rep to see what they can do about the problem. My drivers side iced up so bad the nut that holds the blade loosened and caused the wiper to stop working in the middle of a storm......definitely something honda needs to do something about.

I haven't had the joys of winter with the CR-V yet but I was disappointed with the fact that there was no front heater wires for the wipers like my crummy plain jane Plymouth Voyager had. The heated mirrors were nice too, and you didn't have to buy leather seats to get them. Honda is very odd. They offer a ton of features even on the LX and then leave other things out. I bought the EX predominately for the privacy windows, the other add ons were nice but what I would consider luxuries. (Moonroof, alloy wheels, 6 CD player albeit no place to store the cases). Heated mirrors and wiper heaters are not luxuries.

Why do I got to buy leather seats to get heated mirrors?

What I have noticed while washing the car is inadequate drainage on the passenger side in the wiper recess. The water pools in there. It will eventually drain but I am not sure how long it takes. It looks like that could be a problem in bad weather.

First post, have been lurking about a month and registered about two weeks ago.
While washing the wifes V, I have noticed the same thing. My first thought was, will there be a block of ice encapsulating the wiper blade this winter.
I also agree that there should have been a defroster grid at the base of the windshield.

I think at this point I would settle for a drain hole on the passenger side. This does not ode well that you have the same problem. I was hoping something was plugged up. And Welcome to the CR-V Owners.

Does anyone know if Honda has addressed this issue with the 08 CR-V?

08's are not any different than 07's in that manner.

Late model Chevrolet/GMC pickup trucks are terrible at this. The wipers were designed to be partially hidden under the rear of the hood. A friend has broken his wiper arms numerous times due to ice buildup.

Just had a first taste of this as we had snow the last couple of days here in Vancouver BC, and all the posts here are right on the head! Thanks for informing us of this. It's not very convenient, and it's not smart on Honda's part to design it this way. We'd be shouldering the cost of replacing our wipers more frequently because of this... not good...
