I have a 98 4wd and i have done the math that 300 miles to my tank equals approximately 20mpg. During the first half a tank of gas i can easily reach 150 miles or more, but after the gas goes under the half way point, i can only reach a total of 220 to 250 miles on the tank. My dad says that every car has this problem because of the compression/air level in the gas tank. Is this true that every car gets less millage while being under half a tank of gas?

I am not entirely sure what you are asking. I have a 1998 V also and I manage to get 22-25 MPG if i drive reasonably. 20 if I drive like a duface. But I full up about twice a week when my gas tank gets about half empty.

sorry the real question is that if you go below half a tank of gas does your milage decrease? I drive like i want to get great milage but i only get like 20 to 21 mpgs. That is all city but i dont really think that is great compared to other peoples mpgs. I dont really do highway that often so maybe it is better.

my driving is a fairly mix of highway and city. if i drive purely city i get low 20s also.

as to the original quezstion i am not entirely sure if the gas millage changes are really potentially different. but if you are getting low 20s i would say that is average.

We have had this discussion over at the EOC. The fuel guage is not 100% accurate. You may read that you have half a tank....but it is likel;y less than that. This is why fuel mileage is calculated best over a full tank.

i went snowboarding today and i got 25 mpg today with mixed city and highway. I go easy on the gas and speed up on downhills instead of punching it on flats and uphills. I am impressed by the Vee's clean burning engine and millage. I love my V:)

almost exactly what the Canada Fuel Guide says for this 1998 CR-V.

Over the past 4 fill-ups I have logged the following:

KMs Ltrs Ltr/100Km

233 24.44 10.49
300 31.89 10.63
415 41.61 10.03
271 28.03 10.34

All of the above was mixed city/highway driving. The Canada guide says 11.2 L/100Km for city and 8.9L/100Km for highway.

It would seem that this well used V is running OK. :) No?
