For those that don't know my car or me, I own a 2001 CR-V. It's a first gen and doesn't have an automatic mpg calculator like the newer models. By habit since my first car (1978 Volvo 242 DL), I use the old fashioned paper-and-pencil recording method and a calculator (now replaced with excel) to calculate my mileage. SOOO, for the year 2007-2008, here's some of my stats:

Year - 2008
Miles Driven - 24526
Gallons - 1033.077
Number of Fillups - 100
MPG - 23.7407

Highest (below 10 gallons) - 37.677mpg on 7.989 gallons
Highest (above 10 gallons) - 26.745mpg on 12.152 gallons
Lowest (below 10 gallons) - 19.692mpg on 5.383 gallons
Lowest (above 10 gallons) - 20.983mpg on 12.629 gallons

Do take all of this with a grain of salt. I am, by no means, a professional mileage data consultant. I am missing three data points over the year (dummy filled to get around 22 mpg).

Also, anyone reading this might assume, "Holy Cow! 100 fillups in 365 days? That's more than 1 every 4 days!" You are partially correct, but do note that on road trips, I will stop maybe 3 or 4 times in a day for gas.

Please note that not all fillups are a full tank. Some of the data is screwed up because multiple times, a gas station has run out of gas while I was there, or I gave up on a extremely slow pump and drove to another station (2 stops already!), or various other reasons (cheaper gas here, I need a pit stop, thirsty, etc.)...

This is more for fun, BUT, I'm always willing to hear suggestions on what you guys do or if you keep track at all of your driving over time.

One addition I have for myself is to enter the cost/gallon with every stop.

I still use a notebook and pencil to track every fill and maintenance item completed on our CRV; and I thought I was the only goofy one still doing this. My dad taught me to do this when I was 14 and learning to drive on the farm.

My 08 CR-V takes around a full tank (58 litres) for 400 KM.
14.5 litres/ 100 KM mixed driving like 70% local and 30% highway , which is way more higher than stated. I am waiting for the summer to see are there any improvements. It is almost like Acura MDX, or worst than 6 cylinders highlander or Pilot.

58 liters / 400 km
58 liters = 15.321979 gallons
400 km = 248.548477 miles
15.32 gallons / 248.54 miles = 16.22 miles/gallon

Holy moly... that seems low! Even for city! Of course, after all this math, I found a ca website that said it averages 10L/100km)... http://www.wheels.ca/article/268933

I will say that I always notice a lower mpg in the winter. There are a few posts going around about it on this site and others. The basic jist is that the gasoline changes to a "winter brew" (to actually be efficient, just not as efficient), and that more factors weigh in from the driver's site (more idleing, pushing through snow, sleet, and reindeer, harding pushing of our cars, etc.).

Hopefully, the summer will be great and mileage pops back up! Although, my car is getting old (146,000miles/235,000km), so I don't expect drastic changes.

Safe driving!

My 08 CR-V 6-speed manual trans takes 58litres for 400 KM but with 100% City driving and lots of start and stop very constant and heavy traffic.
