Bought a used 2003 CRV but wondered if it's worth the extended warranty?
6 months + 10km = $760
1 yr - 120,000km = $1045
2 yr - 140,000km = $1510
3 yr - 160,000km = $1790

There is a Certified Honda warranty that came with the purchase free for additional 6 months but only covers power train. It has just under 99,000km right now so.... maybe good as cost of any type of repair can be costly?

Welcome to the club! Those are some fairly costly figures you have there! I don't know much about third party extended warranties but I have never read much good about them. They are pretty good about collecting their fees but not too good at paying out when it is time for a repair. The only warranty I would consider is the genuine HondaCare and I believe your vehicle is past being elegible for that.

If you are seriously considering buying that warranty, I would thoroughly research the company offering the warranty. A lot of these deals are fly by nights. Who is offering this warranty? Is it a real Honda dealer or a used car lot? Many of these companies are experts at disqualifying a repair for numerous reasons. You shouldn't need a lawyer to collect on a repair fee!

There is one problem that the generation 2 V's seemed plagued with, a seizing A/C compressor. Sure enough I tell you not to buy a warranty, the compressor will seize. But if the company is fly by night or experts at not paying out, it is money thrown away, and you still have to pay to fix the damn air conditioner! USE CAUTION! I am extremely leery of third party warranties. Make sure the warranty covers all parts of the A/C.

One thing to remember, at the end of three years your warranty expires. You no longer have your $1790. This don't sound like a good deal to me. If you put $1790 in the bank, it will accrue a bit of interest and it is available for a repair or a down payment for a new car. Its a gamble under the best of circumstances, in the worst you may as well set your money on fire and roast hot dogs with it. I would be very reluctant to buy this warranty.

Having said all that, it is a very personal decision. I can assure you that none of us who so glibly advise not buying warranties are going to send you check to help you with a repair. So it is your choice, but be extremely careful. I have heard virtually nothing good about third party extended warranties.

Welcome to the club, good luck with your new V, and again be extremely cautious with the extended warranty.

Thx black pearl! I luv CRVs! I also have a 1997 version with 240,000km and still going well!

This warranty is provided by Honda so... I know if it was a domestic vehicle, I'd be dumb not to buy it but with a Honda... I could very well be throwing my money away. I guess, if only the compressor goes... then it would be cheaper for me not to buy the extended warranty.

Errr... it's a lot of money so I think I'll chance it and not go for it. I wish these extended warranties weren't so expensive. Thx for your advice!
