CR-V ’07 I like the Tailgate Spoiler but worried about drilling

I really like the look of the tailgate spoiler but I'm worried about all that drilling going on in the tailgate. Would there be any rust issues? Will it have any adverse effect? I would probably have it installed at the dealership
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I installed mine myself, including the drilling, and it's not scary at all as long as you know what you're doing. The spoiler comes with little washers of rubber or felt or something, so no bare metal is going to be exposed.

Thank you OSX2000, I will attempt to install it myself. I do have one question, the installation instructions state that I should measure the torque applied to the cap nuts and the washer/screws. Is this really neccesary or common sense would do? What tool could I use to have this measured?
I could not upload the .pdf installation instructions file, it was too large.

Common sense would definitely be in need here. I would bet a new '07 that there isn't a dealer tech in the US that would actually use a torque wrench on the screws for the spoiler.

^ What he said. Just tighten them enough not to rattle, but not enough to break anything.

I did it, I did it!!!!

It took half a day (Saturday afternoon). Actually I waited for the touch up paint to dry up overnight, so actual work time would be around four hours (I know, I took my time) Anyway, it ended up looking good.
One thing to be careful with, when holding the jack nut, make sure you have a pretty good grip on that, by then you have already glued the rubber seal, if the jack nut slides you will end up with a smashed rubber seal (Like I did). So make sure you get it right the first time.
Overall I'm quite happy with the end result and with saving $100+ for the install

I just bought my new '07 CR-V and didn't get the spoiler because the wife said it looked like it would hold water that may come down when the liftgate is opened. Anyone with a spoiler experience anything like that? I couldn't agree or disagree with her thoughts on that and there's really only one way to tell. Get it wet and open the gate. I like the spoiler look and want one. Can anyone here help me out with that? Want to do a test on where water goes?

Also, does the rear spoiler help shade the cargo area? The tint's very dark but sun is sun. I put my Husky back there and if she's getting hot on long trips it seems a spoiler would help shade her if the sun's high in the sky.

While we don't have a 3rd gen V ourselves just yet (waiting for an 08), I would believe any water that would be trapped would simply run over to the side water channels when you lift the tailgate and run down those. We used to have a Dodge Grand Caravan with the spoiler and that is what it did.

I just installed one on the wifes 07 V and I tightened it as tight as I thought safe. The problem I'm having is it still has a little play in it. Is this normal?

Please describe, what still has a little play in what? A screw? Several screws? The whole spoiler? Sure doesn't sound normal, mine's rock-solid.

Thank you for your quick response. I fixed it. I went back through my steps and found that I had not bottomed out the jack nut all the way. It is rock solid now. Again thanks for your response.

I own a 04 CRV. I wish the 3G spoiler fit the 2G. The new spoiler is really nice! ( I do not think the 3G spoiler would fit the 2G, but I do not know for sure)

The only thing I see available is the rear wind deflector for the 2G, unless it is aftermarket. I had one of those on my 2005 CR-V and found it more useful than the 3G spoiler. The rear wind deflector would keep dust off the rear window and keep it cleaner than one that didn't have one. The 3G spoiler is just for looks. I wished they offered a rear wind deflector for the 3G.
