Personal preference.

How cold do you want it to get and at what cost of extra noise?

When you have normal AC on, you are bringing in outside air and cooling it. When you use MAX AC, you are closing off the damper that allows the outside air in and it recirculates the now partially cooled air which makes it even colder, at the expense of extra noise and no fresh air from the outside being drawn thru it.

Thanks 2RedV's
I guess living in south Florida, the max a/c would be the better fit :)

Normally you would run it at Max till the inside cools down, then switch to normal to introduce fresh air.

But can I just use max a/c all the time and adjust the comfort level with the fan speed and temperature control dial? by using fresh air mode, I often feel like dust is getting inside the car and I can see some dust in the vent as well.

I use max A/C almost all the time, not only because it cools the interior more quickly, but it also keeps out obnoxious odors such as diesel buses and trucks, industrial smoke, and especially skunks.

If you are seeing dust - replace the cabin filter. It takes but a couple of minutes to do it yourself. It is located behind the glovebox.

Max A/C = A/C with 'recirc' and vents on 'dash'. Since I always have the vents on dash in summer, I rather push the 'recirc' on and off than max A/C, but it has the same effect. If you have the vents in other mode, like feet and dash, then it saves time to just hit the Max A/C, then the A/C when you don't want the recirc anymore, and it'd go back to your previous setting. Later.

I can't remember right now (my CRV is only a couple weeks old & haven't done the AC much) but with MAX AC, does it automatically turn on the RERICR? If so, make sure you turn off the RECIRC after no more than 15 minutes or so so it doesnt' fog up your windows.

It will not fog up your windows, you can leave it there forever as the AC dries the air when on. This is why one should use the AC in the winter to unfog the front windshield.

Hm...I thought that I could operate the MAX sperately from the RECIRC on mine (I have to depress the RECIRC button after I press MAX as it comes on automatically when I press MAX AC).
I always use heat to unfog my windows & has worked fine ("turn all the knowbs all the way to the right" is what I have remembered from past manuals). But I know of people who use the AC, (just don't use the RECIRC for long, as RECIRC ON will fog your windows)
EDIT: I had it backwards: My RECIRC operates independently of the MAX AC, not the other way around.

if i'm not mistaken, i've also read that recirc on the AC also causes driver fatigue, since there isn't much fresh air in the cabin...

Per page 125 of the 2007 Honda CR-V manual: "The system should be left in fresh air mode under most all conditions. Keeping the system in recirculation mode, particularly with the A/C off, can cause the windows to fog up".This means with the recirc button pressed (see: on) can fog windows under any condition.
