Just wondering what everyone is using (chemical) for keeping the dust from the dash plastic? Glass cleaner, dash mat...etc 07 CRV
Thanks for any advise...

I have that aerospace coating my dash and steering wheel. My V is 7 years old and it's dash is still pristine. The sterring wheel ring, however is peeling garbage.

I just use some amonia mixed with water. a very low ammount of amonia at that and it works good enough for me.:D

What about Windex? Anyone having problems with the regular ordinary blue Windex?

Use caution with the clear plastic on the instrument panel. One member posted that the instrument panel clouded up after cleaning.

I reread the clouded cover problem. My inclination is that the rag (just as BP suspected) was contaminated with something. More than likely the detergent or the softener used in daily washing of clothes has some type of solvent or a chemical (such as Stoddard solvent used in dry-cleaning) that is dissolving the surface of the cover.
It could be some water high in acid rain too! But I doubt it.
If I need to I will try distiled water and a virgin white Bounty paper towel. That should be fine as they are not as abrasive as the cheaper paper towels.

I heard vinegar and newspaper helps clear up clear plastic, the newspaper can't scratch it and the vinegar takes the clouding off. I have not tried this, but i have heard of it a lot.

I have never tried this news paper cleaning trick reportedly good on glass too. I just use white Bounty paper towels with no problems.
Don't you have to make surer it is not fresh ink recently printed on the paper? Just in case any solvents in the ink might make things worst.
Just a thought. Maybe not.

Yeah, I heard you have to use an old newspaper. I tried using it with windex on the windshield, it works amazing, but I haven't tried the vinegar trick yet.

Is there a good dash-mat company for an 07?

+1. Armor-All will actually age the dash faster and cause cracks down the line.
303 Protectant is what I use. It leaves a nice brand new dash look, not sticky and greasy like other products. It also protects the dash from sun damage. It's well worth every penny.

Haven't head of 303, does it stay for many years or so? I have my dash teflon coated to help keep it from getting suburned. The steering wheel has taken it's intake of sun though, it's almost wearing away.

I have no idea how long it stays on. I usually wipe it on everytime I wash the car or clean the interior. The link posted above has information about it.
I've never heard of teflon coating the dash. What's the process and how much does it cost?

You buy a big spray bottle of aircraft or boat teflon coating. You spray it on the dash into a sort of puddle, then wipe it all over, and make sure you lay it on real thick, then let it dry. It costs about $150 a bottle, but the protectant doesn't have to be redone for about 2 years, so I'd say it's worth it. MY dash is still the dark clean brown it left the factory with 7 years ago. No cracks. The only thing the coating will nt work on is the steering wheel. Teflon is a good protectant if you park your car in the sun all the time.

You can cook your eggs on the dash on a hot sunny day and they won't stick! :D It is a bitch flipping the eggs though. The dash is a bit awkward and heavy. :D

so is the gen. 2 crv just ave bad plastic on the dash and stering wheel because the only bad things that happened to my dash are passenger related scratches.
My parents XB does the opposite of heating up the dash. The stearing wheel would get icy cold in the winter. It would be painful to touch and your hands would eventually go numb after a few minutes so i would point the air vents at the stering wheel with the heater on just to warm it up. toyota always will build a crappy car if they have too.

It has weird scratchy rocky plastic like on older chevys on the dash and it scratches with minimal force, like breathing.

that suck the suff in the gen 1 could withstand a nuclear explosion. I think i do not want to be the guy to find it out for myself. but it is extreemly durable. and the color has not faded at all and the steering wheel is holding up very nicely as well even though my V is 10 yrs old.

Was your car kept in a garage? Mine wasn't for it's first 5 years of life. That's why the fading.

It was in the garage for a while but it was been outside for 5 years at the very least. I cant really remember in 97 when my dad bought it i was 8 yrs old. my memory dosen't go back that far.
My mom did have an 02 or 03 honda oddessy and i do remember that it did have extreemly crappy interior plastic it scratched very easily it was kinda soft not durable probably the same stuff that is in the second gen CRV. I should look at one some time its gotten me curious.

It's actually exactly the same. I have an 02 Crv and a 03 Odyssey. They have the same plastic, but different upholstery. Well, mainly because the Odyseey has a leather interior, and the stereo in the Odyssey SUCKED. At least the Cr-v's was pretty good, even though it was a year older. The thing I like about the odyssey is it has beige interior too, but it has a black steering wheel. I would have liked a black wheel in the cr-v

ya we out grew the oddesy and had to get a suburban a coupple of years later. the oddesy was silver with grey interior.

thats true. and i hate all products from the big three. if they made decent vehicles i would lke them. but some of their trucks do have a lot of raw power.
Serj22
02-05-2009, 06:44 PM
Eh... I'm not talking trucks... I'm talking HARDCORE JIMMY THAT I HAD!!! But it had an Impala Engine swap from a Police interceptor. It worked with the swap for 60,000 miles til the transmission went... and then destroyed the differential... and then destroyed the rear axles... and then the driveshaft... Here's some photos I dug up of it:
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/serj22/carbehind.jpg
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/serj22/underglow.jpg
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/serj22/carnight.jpg
But I don't think anyone was as lucky to have a car as dirty looking... it worked good. I miss it, but she did her time, served well, and didn't give me sh** till her final trip out of my girlfriend's driveway when the drivetrain basically blew up. And her paint changed about once every month, so it was fun to maintain... I let people graffiti it as long as they had something nice or cool to draw. Not slang garbage... so it was fun.
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/serj22/HEather.jpg
Dear heather... RIP....
And on top of that, I had the 91 Pontiac, which ran forever then the thermostat went, and everythign melted, and not even 3 full sized dudes on a breaker bar could get the shaft to spin... that was at 224,000 miles. My experiences were ok, but I will admit, they don't last as long as a honda and stay in RUNNING PERFECT condition. That's the only drag. But when the engine goes on my Cr-v, it's getting replaced with that V8 Vortec Impala I still have if it will fit. If not, I'll probably get a more powerful Honda or Acura motor to drop in, maybe the one off the Odyssey or an Acura RDX or something.
electric V
02-05-2009, 08:03 PM
Acura said that it was gonna make a V8 for the RL. if they really make it powerful and put it into the Rigline then i would have to get one:rolleyes:
That is a prettly cool jimmy. the lady that cleaned my teeth (when i had braces) had a son that had a 2 door blaser. it had a stock motor but all aftermarket exhaust and intake. it was incredibly loud. it had a body kit and he got it painted silver with some racing stripes on it. Then he sold it to some undercover cops
The jiimmy/blaser are soe of the few GMs that i like

Ridgeline is a pickup for people who don't carry things in their truck, unless they are potted plants, that bed size sucks....
electric V
02-06-2009, 12:44 AM
the bed size is terrible but it is a good looking truck. it is difficult to add thigs from the sides because the way the body is shaped on the sides or so i've heard.
currently hondas most powerful engine is the 3.7 liter in the SH-AWD TL 305 hp
Serj22
02-06-2009, 02:20 PM
Well, if the 3.7 fits with the powertrain, i might do that, but I'd like a sideways mounted engine. I can cut up the hood and put a large scoop in it for room later if necessary.

:DI found a websight called Hong Kong motors and they sold Honda/Acura, Infinity/Nissan, and Toyota engines. But they ship from you guessed it Hong Kong.
They were selling the b18 for $2500.00 and with a kit to install it in a civic was $3500.00
Shipping must be terrible if they sell to the states.:D

I love seeing things on Ebay that are $15.00 and you go "wow, that's really cheap for a double necked fender..." and then you find out the shipping is $500. I don't want to know how much it costs to ship an engine.
electric V
02-10-2009, 11:59 PM
Exactly. I was looking at the JDM grill for the first gen it was $80.00 plus $80.00 for shipping. Although I would love to see a Fed Ex guy trying to get a big wooden crate out of their truck than after they get it to the front door ask whats in it. I would tell them 500 lbs. of feathers:D
