Hello everyone,

I drive a Honda CR-V 2001 model. Recently, I've noticed that the spare tire soft cover has begun to rip slowly off the side. I'd like to replace this so I have a couple questions:

1) If the tire cover comes off completely, will the tire just fall out? Or is the tire attached to the back of the car?

2) I saw from a previous post that I can get a new tire cover here : http://www.handa-accessories.com/crvext01.html

If I get one of these, can I replace the cover myself, or should I take it to a mechanic? I have very little knowledge about cars, but if it's a matter of taking off a few screws or something, I can do that.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Megacrv,

The spare tire cover is only there to keep the tire and wheel clean. The tire is mounted to a bracket on the rear door so yes the cover can be taken off and you definitely can replace it yourself. Its just a matter of unzipping it: there should be two zippers on the underside that are simply unzipped and the cover can be pulled off. Hope this helped!

the hard tire covers are more difficult to put on and they will only work if you still have the stock tire size 205 / 75/ R15. other wize the soft ones will fit nicely. i personally think that you should invest in wheel locks for the spare and leave the cover off. the V looks way better without the tire cover just my opineon.
