Actually, it's not just the light; the rear door open indicator light flickers on and off at the same time. I've taken the thing in to the dealer three times - tomorrow will make four. The first guy told me on the phone that it was a bad switch - but when I took it back the second time, the manager told me that there had been no diagnostic and nothing had been done the first time around. I had to take it back a third time because they decided they would try to replace the latch - and they didn't have one in stock. When it was replaced, the problem was fixed for about two weeks. Now it's back - and the service advisor refused to preorder the part (another latch) before I brought it back in. So I can expect to make the 30 minute trip at least a fifth time - and I'm losing faith that it will ever really be repaired. I'm looking into California Lemon Laws. This may seem like a trivial problem to some people, but it has already caused my battery to run down because I wasn't aware that the dome light stayed on when the car was parked in my garage. The problem also makes it impossible to lock the car, either remotely or even from within the car, because the car "thinks" there's a door open. Finally, it's dangerous to drive around a completely dark road at night with the light flashing on and off; I'm sure I look like Dracula's bride from the outside. I turned the dome light off - but I don't think I should have to live like this . . .

It has been a fairly common problem. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the end of the switch - in effect, to make it bigger - until you can get a replacement switch. One member posted that he fixed his with a piece of electrical shrink-wrap around the end and didn't bother to have the dealer fix it.

I had the same problem, I just stuck a piece of black rubber to the face of the switch, and held it on with black electrical tape, so you would never notice it. This simply acts as a spacer and pushes the switch further back to break the electrical connection when the rear door closes, mines been fine now for the last 3 months.
