This message is kind of targeted at European CRV owners, as I guess that, in any case, nearly all Diesel CRV owners are in Europe anyway.

My CRV has the 18 inch wheels and I am having a nightmare with tyres. I simply cannot find them for anything other than extortionate prices.

The size is 225 60 18 100H. The standard tyre is a Dunlop Grandtrek ST30. Honda have quoted me 1400 pounds for a new set. This is a 'discounted' price, apparantely it 'should' be 1650 pounds. This is crazy money.

None of the internet dealers have this size tyre. Am I stuck with just the Dunlop? Does anyone else make a tyre that fits this size? The price should be no more than 800 pounds at the very most.

If I were to go 10mm wider, with a 235 60 18, the choice is huge and the prices OK. But it seems that this is against the law. Again, crazy, as 10mm wider is not going to present a safety problem, but hey, I don't make the rules......

My tyres are now almost illegal (45 000km) and I refuse to pay 1400 quid. Can anyone help?!

I just did a check on the first website I could think of here in the UK Black Circles (http://www.blackcircles.com) and they came in at £170 a tyre fitted for your quoted size - total of £680 - tyre they quote is exactly the same as you, Dunlop Grandtrek ST30.

Tried mytyres (http://www.mytyres.co.uk/) and they came back with £139.10 (4 tyres = £556.40) for Pirelli P7s

On http://www.allopneus.com (as you live in France), you can get the Dunlop GrandTrek ST30 for 169€ each ... that's 676€ (618£) for a set of 4.

You can also get the Pirelli P7 for 143€ each.

I did check both Blackcircles and Allopneus before, but neither had the Dunlop at all, on several occasions. It is great to see that they have them back in, so no doubt I will order a set.

I had seen the Pirelli P7's before, but I wasn't sure if this tyre was really the right type for the CRV, certainly it has no 'off-road' capability. Perhaps it will last longer? I don't go off road that much, but when I do it's quite tough terrain, so probably the Dunlop is the better bet.

Thanks for the help.
