by the way, most extended warranty from the site I've found will not sell the warranty to the Floridian. Any recommendation?
Thank you

If you google honda care extended warranty, it will give you a number of the real Honda dealers that sell the extended warranty at a large discount.

However, as you just realized, the wonderful state of Florida has made it illegal for you to buy your extended warranty from anyone other than a Florida dealer.
None of the discount sellers will sell you the warranty either - it is illegal for them to do so.

Your choice is not to buy one. I never do.:)

Some people feel better to have insurance.

How long are you planning on keeping it?

Would you sell the vehicle yourself later on or trade it in?

If you sell it yourself and the warranty is still valid, it is a nice selling point and can get you more money. (Yes, Honda does allow a pro-rated rebate back to you if the warranty is not transferred to the new owner). It is transferable to the new owner for a small fee.

If you trade it in, just cancel the warranty and get your own little rebate back from Honda. The dealer won't care or even notify the new owner anyway as the dealer will want to sell them a new warranty.

I usually keep the car for a decade. I'll think about it. btw, Geico offer Mechanical Breakdown Insurance for about 6 dollars a month for 7 years or 100,000 miles, but there is $250 deductible per repair.here what it says

GEICO’s MBI provides better coverage and is cheaper than the typical dealer extended warranty. MBI coverage:
Includes all parts and systems-not just the specific list of items covered by most dealer warranties.
Saves you money. You pay only a small premium each policy period-not a large lump-sum payment up front.
Lets you get your car repaired wherever you like.

MBI Exclusions
Exclusions to this policy include such regular maintenance services as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and linings, brake shoes, and tires. Also, breakdown repairs made necessary by intentional damage, corrosion, misuse, or improper maintenance are not covered. Multi-Risk Insurance coverage is in excess of coverage provided by your manufacturer’s warranty. Read the policy amendment for the complete terms and conditions of this coverage.

Can you buy their coverage when you near the end of the factory warranty?
It doesn't make sense to buy it during the 3 year 36k mile warranty period. Plus, a $250 deductible assures that only a catastrophic event will be covered.

I have 15 months from the first day I bought the car to purchase the coverage.

Ask dealer about Costco, Sams Club, etc. special pricing. I saved with the Costco price, and no Costco membership necessary. What I thought should have been a $900 extended warranty (6 yr. 80k mi) was still $1200, so still not cheap. Kept thinking about how the Nav costs $2200 to replace, and it made the warranty decision easier..

For me driving to Tampa, Gaiensville, and on vacation, I am getting the exteneded warranty as I plan on keeping it for 100,000. If you do a lot of excessive driving get it, as 3/36,0000 won't last long at all.

My aunt got an extened warranty on her Benz, gald she did the transmission went out at 75,000 would have cost her $6000, she to can't wait to get back to Honda as well the 99 C230 kompressor is crap.

I am obviously at the point of needing to decide. At my current pace, I will put 24k+ miles on the 'V in the first year. The 36k mile won't last 2 years with me. For the $985 I've seen online for 8 year 120k, I think I will probably do it. Something goes wrong with the Navi, rear differential, or AC compressor, you have your money's worth.

I went ahead with getting the 8yr 120k warranty. Just feel better...I know I will have it that long...I probably reach the miles way before the 8yrs.

If you google honda care extended warranty, it will give you a number of the real Honda dealers that sell the extended warranty at a large discount..

Thanks, I tried this last night and found a dealer who is offering Honda Care at half the price that my dealer offered it to me at the time of the sale. I refused it at that price, almost $2000, but I am reconsidering it at a little less than $1000. I tend to keep a car until falls apart. Yes it is a Honda, but yes it is loaded with a lot of expensive sounding goodies and sensors. So I am tempted.

My first worry is that it is a scam. I checked, the dealer is listed on Honda's web page. Same address and same phone number. Before I buy I will call the dealer and make sure that this is indeed their website and they are selling the real thing, Honda Care, by Honda, not some 3rd party junk.

Has anyone any experience with the extended warranty?

Does Honda honor the warranties or do they nitpick (you missed an oil change by 500 miles therefore this airconditioner compressor is no longer covered)?

Has anyone ever bought a warranty off the internet like this?

Is the warranty identical to what your dealer offers at the time of sale?

Does your dealer get hyperspastic because you didn't buy the warranty from them?

For that matter does anyone have experience with buying their car at a distant dealer and getting it serviced at a closer dealer?

I will appreciate any info that anyone can provide.

It isn't a scam. It is legal to buy an extended warranty from any dealer (and OK with Honda) unless you live in Florida, in which case you have to buy it from the selling dealer.

HondaCare is the real deal. It is not some third party crap where the company goes out of business next year. It is Honda.

Honda doesn't nitpick about maintenance, however, if you have a good dealer service history, Honda Corporate tends to take much better care of you with "goodwill" out of warranty than those people that bought the car and never went back to the dealer.

Again, it is the identical warranty. Call Honda Corporate and ask them if you are concerned.

What you should do is bring one of the on-line quotes to your dealer and let them know you want the warranty and will buy it from them if they price match it. At least give them the chance to match it.

Thanks! I checked that out and I found out some valuable info. The dealer that I am considering was mentioned several times so that eliminates my fears of a scam.

Thanks for this information. I think that I will definitely go for the warranty, but at least now I realize I have some time to consider.

Regarding your last suggestion about letting the dealer match the price, that is probably sage advice. However...the stupid Irishman inside me has become enraged. I am Irish and stupid, and objectively realize it. However when my nose is blatantly rubbed into my well earned stupidity, the Irishman gets angry.

I questioned the dealer about the extended warranty. He showed me the prices. The only prices that seemed reasonable were for short periods. $1970 for the 8 yr 120K just seemed too much. I expressed some dismay at the price and said that while I would like to get the warranty, I felt that it was more than I could afford. That was the end of it. I assumed that Honda charged something close to the price and the dealer made very little on it. No one pressured me--I asked, and it was promptly dropped as though it was an unpleasant side discussion.

So my dealer let me walk out the door with no extended warranty and I have been beating myself up because I am so cheap. Then I read your comment the other night and start checking. I can get the 8 year 120 k warranty for $985 on the net--the same Honda Care warranty from several different Honda dealerships!!!!!!! The thought had never occurred to me.

Hmmm! My dealer let me walk with no warranty, when he could have knocked off a significant chunk of the price. Now I am going to give him a second chance to match the price? I don't think so. If the dealer would have knocked $500 of the price of the warranty, I would have bought it. I had no idea that they made that kind of profit on the warranty. Trying to suppress my normal mode of language in regards to this warranty issue is truly difficult. Shall we say that I am a little steamed, in fact just plain enraged, not only with the dealer but with myself. I researched this vehicle, read all the buying advice from different sites like Edmonds, but somehow walked into the dealership with the belief that extended warranties were fixed price. Then I come to find out that you cut the price in half on the net.

Again I really appreciate the information that you have given me, and please don't consider my reply a criticism of your suggestion about matching the price. That is most likely a smart thing to do. But my jaws are really torqued over this issue, and I'll be damned if I am going to reward the dealer when he let me walk with no warranty. If it wasn't that important to him to sell me one, he shouldn't mind if I buy it somewhere else. There was never a hint of any negotiability.

I really do want to thank you for steering me in this direction. I had just accepted that the warranty was more than I was willing to pay, and proceeded with the self flagellation for being so cheap. Now I can enjoy a serious bout of self flagellation for being stupid. When you buy a car once a decade, you never get to good at it.

Plus, if you buy it locally, I think you will have to pay sales tax !

Excellent point. Not only 6% like the rest of Pennsylvania, but 7% for living in the same county as the most livable city in the US. (Obviously decided by people who don't live here.) Rack up another $70 saved (or $140 for what the dealer was going to charge me.)

Thanks.

Tax on a service or service contract? Not here in otherwise "If it sells it can be taxed Illinois", although our socialist governor is trying to ram state sponsored health care and a tax on all services as I type this.

PA is probably no better. Food at a supermarket, clothing, prescriptions, and I believe health care is tax free. Everything else including food at a resturant, the service is a luxury, is taxed. Allegheny County home of Pittsburgh, the most livable city, the Steelers, Penguins, & Pirates has a 7% rate to pay for all the stadiums (& of course other things as well), even though we voted the tax hike down. So yes my extended warranty at the dealer would have cost me 137.90 in sales tax, even though the dealer is in another county. You pay by the county you reside in not where you are buying. Neat huh?
