It was time to change the balding tyres on the old man's '04 Accord V6 Luxury, so scored these virtually new rims and tyres off an '09 Accord V6 Luxury. This gives us new tyres with a nice size upgrade from 205 to 225 width, lower profile, and a rim upgrade from 16" to 17". Best of all it's still OEM.

Before (with 16" stock rims)

After (with 17" rims from '09 Accord)

Overall very happy with the new rims. The ride is smoother, quieter and the alignment seems to be OK. The old tyres tendency to pull to the right is gone now. All in very good. If only these 17" rims had the same polished appearance as the 16" rims then it'd be 100% perfect as it suited the overall look of the Accord nicely.

Looks good. The rims remind me of flower petals. It looks cool. Too bad it's not the same alloy finish as the first ones. That would be 2X as excellent.:) Either way, it looks better.

Well...I only fitted these new rims on the weekend and today a BUS hit the right rear end of the Accord and sideswiped it. The picture is too small and grainy to see extent of damage but there is also some damage to the right rear rim and bad scrape marks down the right rear side of the car. The car has already been quoted for repairs but it will be a brand new rear bumper, new right rear tail light, and the right rear rim will be replaced with a new one, and some minor bodywork repairs to the right side of the car. It'll be off the road for 5 days.

What a twist. They're going to replace that wheel, and not the stock one right? Because that would suck. That bus drivers going to be a little fired from his job...

Yes, it is sorted out but not yet fixed. It is booked in the panel shop for next week. The insurance company supplies a free rental car for the duration of the repairs so that's a bonus. The total damage in Australian dollars was about $2200 worth. I'll post some new pictures of the repairs once we get the car back.

Just an update. Yesterday I drove past the panel body shop and while I was sitting at a red light I spotted our Accord inside being worked on. Here it is with the boot up and rear bumper off (can't really see from this picture but it looked a sorry sight!).

And earlier this afternoon I collected the Accord from the panel body shop. The repairs look good. While the car was in the shop with the rear bumper off, we got them to fit some new reverse parking sensors into the bumper we've been meaning to get fitted for months. All in, the car looks great and it's good to have it back after a week of driving around in a rented Toyota Corolla.
