View Full Version : 12 hour old 2007 CRV-EX oil leak

I purchased a new 2007 CRV EX on Thursday, March 29th. This was my first new car and first Honda. I took the vehicle home and everything seemed ok. In the morning, I found oil dripping from the engine. It turns out that the main rear engine seal is defective. This type of repair involves removing the transmission and taking most of the engine apart. This is something you should never have to do until about 200,000+ Miles. Did I mention that this was a brand new car?
I have tried to contact Honda customer service without any success and the dealership does not care either. I have been told that this is what the warranty is for. I didn't even own the vehicle for 12 hours and now I am without a car. No compensation provided, no replacement vehicle, no refund. I found on the internet that other buyers have the same problem. Had I known about this issue prior to making my decision, I would have NEVER purchased this vehicle.

Look at this link, you can print it out and bring it to the dealer. Also, open a case file with American Honda.

I honestly never imagined this kind of problem, especially from Honda, and especially coming from Japan, where supposedly quality control is greatest.
I just picked up mine yesterday, and it should have right about 100 miles now, so I'm crossing my fingers.
So what's the deal? Either fails at 100 miles, or doesn't fail? Is it a seal or installation problem? I don't want it to be a 'time bomb' issue like it is on my BMW bike, on which is a matter of 'when', and not 'if' the seal will fail. And that SUCKS, since you don't know when it's going to rear its ugly head.
Finally, has the problem been addressed? Since when it started? My V has a build date of 3/07, and wonder if it can be affected or not. And I'd raise big time hell too, but not being offered a loaner is a downright insult. Take care, and good luck man.

Just turned 500 miles on mine, with no oil in the driveway. I feel for the OP. This is my 1st Honda purchase as well. So far so good.

Just crawled under mine (with 101 miles) and bone dry (whew!!!!). It's got to be an assembly problem, rather than a part problem, which is great news if you're not afflicted.
Saw one poster mentioned he noticed it at 1K+ miles, so won't declare victory just yet, but I suspect it was there all along.
The cases I saw were in Dec and Jan, so my Mar/07 built vehicle should be (emphasis on 'should') all right. You guys scared me:p . If somebody is going to have a problem, it's ME, so I was relieved this time. Probably because my wife drives it < he he>. Good luck with the problematic Vs. The '04 MDX I just traded was the worst vehicle I've owned so far. In fact, don't even know why we're buying Honda again, but hope this car restores our faith in Honda. So far so good (in 1 say of ownership < ha ha>). Later.
