I finally found out how handy the rear hatch window is needed 10 ft boards to finish my deck.Popped the window and loaded them in ,they stuck out about a foot. I know you are not supposed to drive with it open but I am only 5 minutes from Lowes. So after 2 years I finally found a use for it. :)

I found that same use, and you're right, it's awesome, but you have to get some towels and blankets to cover the ends. The interior plastic scratches like nobody's business - it's aweful.

Tcturner, great to hear from you. Glad to hear that the hatch window worked out for you. How is the weather up your way? Cooler than here I hope. The Pearl showed 91 degrees on the way home from work.

i think that's the only real use for it ... considering that it's too high to load stuff over comfortably and there's no exterior release for it ...

There's an exterior release for it - you put the key in the trunk key hole, then turn it opposite the way you open it, and just the window pops up. OR there is a button on the key fob SPECIFICALLY just to open the rear hatch, so there are 2 ways to open it exteriorly.;)

Also another use is moving a lot of stuff - once you ave the car packed, if you open the hatch, you risk things falling out, so you can open the hatch and continue to load things that way on top of everything else. Another use would be moving a lawnmower, or someone parked too close behind you and you need to put something in the trunk - rather than swing the door into their impolite front end of their car.... though tempting... you can just open the hatch, and load stuff that way.

There's tons of stuff to do with the rear hatch, that's why 07 and up people are missing out.

I frequently have to load a coupple of 5 lb. Propane tanks. They hurt the V pretty badly. The Toyota Matrix has tie down straps to hold thing in place in the back it like 12 and the V doesn't have that many:(
