My 2000 V with 126,000 miles is shaking/rattling badly when reaching speeds of 75-80mph on the freeways. Anyone here have similar experiences? Any ideas? The car has been maintained regularly.

Did this suddenly start? Maybe right after a tire rotation? There are several things that can cause it. If even one wheel was not mounted properly, as in not matching up well to the mating surfaces due to dirt, it can cause the wheel to wobble. Have the tires been balanced with a road force balancer? Could one or more of the tires be worn? Have you considered an alignment?

I had a 2000 CR-V with the same problem. Long story short....
I was in an accident with my 2000 V a little over 5 years ago.
Had the car repaired at a local body shop. I always thought the work was questionable. Didn't drive the car much over the next couple of years (communted by train) then last fall I changed jobs and started to drive to work. So now my car is at 60,000 miles and I decided to get new tires for the winter weather. I had the new tires put on and noticed the exact problem you had...my car CONVULSED at 75-80 mph! I took it to a local dealership and they rebalanced and rotated the tires. The problem didn't go away. Then they searched further and came to the conclusion that the axels that were put in after the accident were failing and that, they felt, was the problem. $1,500 later, the problem didn't go away. This was one problem on top of a series of other issues that started turning up from the repair job from the accident. So with a heavy heart, and not sure what else could possibly go wrong, I traded-in the car for my 07 CR-V. But I never found out what was really wrong with my car.
I know that you posted this back in April, did you ever get it fixed? I know that when my car would hit 75-80 mph it convulsed so badly...it was scary. Everything shook. I literally thought my car was going to shake apart on the highway.
I used to have this same problem with my Acura Legend. Turns out one of the rims was slightly bent. Happened again after having the tires rotated and balanced and it turned out that they put the wrong weights on.
Next time you get a balance ask them to check if any of the rims are bent. Also, ask them if the correct weights were put on the wheel.
Hope this helps.

I currently have the same problem with my 2000 CRV EX in Canada i stated to have shaking on the car when reached about 70-80km/hr and above. After taking to shop found out the the VJoint that is used to pull rear tiers when only front weel drive is working is rusted. Im taking the car in tomorow they said it will cost me about 200canadian dolars to fix it. Hope that helps

Tires, tires, tires. Balance and rotate.

I know this thread is way old.. but I'm just dropping by 2 say hello. Had the same issue once while travelling froom Maryland to New York. Once I got back I went to Tires Plus, had my rims checked out, bought new tires and had them rotated. Also bought an extended Warranty/membership (for a measly extra $15) that get me UNLIMITED rotations and inflations for my tires. That is - yes, unlimited. As long as I own those tires on that car.
The moderators were right, it is all about maintenance. Now my V actually purrs at 80+ MPH... she loves it! Another tip I learned... don't over inflate the tires. Keep it dead on the recommended pressure and check them every other week. A bit of a pain but the ride will be smoother.
Thanks afor all the great info on the forum
