has anyone installed a bug deflector on a 07 crv? does it work at protecting the paint and windshield from road junk?

It would do a better job than a mask would but it also alters the style. 3M clear paint protection film is really your best bet, you typically can't even tell it's there after it's been installed. It is however usually considerably more expensive.

Protect the hood or the windshield? Big difference. I have not seen a decent, real bug deflector for a windshield in years because they are not very aerodynamic. They would have to stand very upright to deflect air up and over the windshield.
