Why did this not spark the attention of Honda and get produced as say, a special edition Cr-v. Would you have bought it? I would have... I still would. I like the idea, though I would have gotten rid of the C and D pillars so that when the windows are all rolled down, the sides would be flush. Regardless, I'm going to start a project sometime on making that half-hard tire cover - it's awesome, and sleek.

Thats pretty cool. I always wanted a convertable CRV. I am not too crazy about the rounded section on the back of the soft top. I think It should look more rugged and jeep like.

Apparently they stole your tail-light idea 12 years before you thought of it... what jerks...

From that angle it looks like a Chevy Tracker convertable.....

Even if I may not have it, or buy it, I'm going to get a hold os such a spare tire cover. Come on it's perfect, it's like a mostly naked spare mod Chris, so I will be different.

The mitsuhishi Montero has a similar tire cover on some of the older models (it is closed on the top and bottom). If it fits good enough you may just be able to cut it how you want and paint it.

I was actually just browsing the junkyard and the montero was one that I liked, that and the Rav 4's hard cover, but I need one that has no ridges, no depth, no designs, just a hard, flat cover taht wraps the wheel. I'm also looking at Lincoln Continentals for the 60's that had the spare's in the bumper, since the cover is already halved, but no luck finding one without severe rust damage, or huge cracks. I'll eventually find one. Our Pick'n'pull is huge, and I only browsed through about 2 lines of cars while looking for 97' Camry so my friend could fix his airbox.

Just my personal opinion, but I find this "thing" to be kind of ugly. It isn't really a convertible and it isn't really a V. I would probably be interested in a more open-air styled V that was more like a wrangler. I'm personlly not a fan of convertibles, but do enjoy a good jeep. Strike me down for saying that on a V forum, but as a former jeep owner and a current V owner, I enjoy my suvs :)
I will have to say that the spare tire cover is pretty awesome. Not extremely functional, but definately an eye-catcher! That, sir, I would like to have.

the only problem that presents is that the cr-v is a uni-body vehicle and you would have to have a pretty beefy roll cage to make the vehicle structurally sound

That convertible seems pretty weak, which is one of many reasons that I don't like it, hence my desires for a more jeep like crv. Anyways, I'm sure there are many reasons why there are so few open air jeep styled suvs. I'm actually pretty happy with my V: AC and all; been in too many wranglers that have caused problems for me (like the frickin' roof flying up and me having to catch it with my hands!). Oh, if only I had photos of that instance...
ANNNND, I'll have to search, but I did see a second gen V roll right in front of me on the highway. We were going about 75mph and this V was going faster as it was passing me (I was the pack leader at the time). Well, swerve, swerve, roll roll and into a tree, craziness. I stopped to help and called 911. Fortunately all three people survived and walked away unharmed. I took a photo of it somewhere! They are dang lucky that the bottom of the V hit the tree. If they were in this fancy crv convertible, I'm afraid things would have been horribly different.

THEY should not treat their 2nd gen that way. If they were going to drive stupid, I suggest they give their car to me first then go buy a different car.
There was an open air concept on the Gen2 as well ... pretty nice

yeah with the open air crv, you still have some structural support in the roof, but not as much as the production models.

I can get that done at a moonroof shop... thank you for the idea... I would just need a way to cover the bottom of the glass to keep the sun out when I didn't want it open.
