We just got in a shipment of the 15400-PLM-A01 (http://handa-accessories.com/15400-plm-a01.html) filters (May 6th 2009). It is a very limited supply and I put up a special link to get them at:
http://www.HandA-Accessories.com/crvoc.html (http://www.HandA-Accessories.com/crvoc.html)
When they are gone I will delete them from that page so if you don't see them there please don't order filters from the regular page if you have to have 15400-PLM-A01's as you would likely get A02s shipped at that point.

They fit all the years of the CRV.
Honda just switches back and forth between two oil filters and some people prefer the 15400-PLM-A01s so since we had them for awhile I figured I'd let people know.

Haven't seen anything comparing them. I'm not big on filter comparisons, I figure both Honda ones are made to Honda's specs and backed by Honda so either should be okay. But we do get quite a few requests for the 15400-PLM-A01s.

There is a filter dissection thread over on the EOC and according to it, the A01 is a far better filter. The A01 is made by Filtech (the American division of Toyo Roki). The A02 is made by Honeywell Canada (the proud manufacturers of Fram).

I bought a bunch of A01s off the competition (they had them available--what can I say). The filter has a metal tube and end caps and a metal bypass. The A02 has plastic components and cardboard endcaps. The A01 is physically heavier. The A02 has more and larger flow holes. The A01 is definitely a better constructed filter--but does it filter any better? Beats the hell out of me.
We had a thread on all of this where we flailed ourselves and each other unmercifully with whips and chains. Here is the thread...read it and puke.

On page 3 of that thread I posted comparison photos (external only) of the two filters. Somewhere in that mess you should find the link to the EOC dissection thread.
Trevor's statement "I am not big on filter comparisons" is a pearl of wisdom that I highly recommend. Oil filters and religion will get you into more trouble....

Trevor, is anyone still making the A01 filter? Do you have any insight on the A01 PE being the same filter?

Honda didn't stop making them, I'm just not sure who was getting them. Their stocking levels of that part number have always fluctuated and often been well over 100,000, indicating that they were shipping them and getting in large new orders of them. We've asked several times in the past if there was any way we could specify which filter we wanted and have always been told no.
As far back as I can remember Honda has always had 2 suppliers for their oil filters. Probably not a bad move just incase something happens to one of the supply lines.
as far as the PE filter, I don't have any information at all on that one.
