I promise I did a search but didn't see plug change instructions (or hints) for a '02 model. Also is the iridium plug a must or what do the experts recommend. Car has 99k. First post so please be easy on an old man!

Stick with Denso Iridium, NGK Iridium or gen. Honda spark plugs and all will be well. I wouldn't use any other plugs.......

Don't forget to use a little anit-seize on the new spark plug treads. This will help you remove them in the future.

You will have to remove the cover and coils on top of the engine to access the spark plugs. You have have to use a small piece of 3/8 vinyl tubing to get them started and to remove the old plugs (once they are loose). Torq them to the proper secs using a proper sized sparkplug socket. Do one at a time. Consider blowing out the spark plug holes before removing old plugs, this will remove dirt and debris that may otherwise fall into the sparkplug hole.

The haynes manual walks you through the process, available at most autoparts stores or online.

Good luck.

Are you referring to spark plugs?

I have iridium spark plugs. Any plug should do... though I admit I don't know what Honda exactly recommends.

There should be instructions in your car's manual. If you don't have the manual, here's one of the first links I found doing a google search:

No photos, but you get the jist of it.

Welcome to the club and I hope your spark plugs do well!

I just went over 100k and put in NGK Iridiums. The old plugs still look great. It was just less than a 1hr DIY job.

I've never noticed a single difference in spark plugs, single, double tips, etc... doesn't seem to matter to me. I'm sure there's a placebo where people who buy expensive plugs go "wow, this is so much better" when they drive, but I personally can't tell, and it's not like the engine says "this is better, keep buying these."

I'd just buy whatever works.

i have an interesting story on spark plugs which was told me. on the European Passat, VW supplies the car with copper-headed spark plugs. they do not supply it with platinum-tipped plugs, because the spark is therefore too high-temperature and combustion is more uneven, leading to premature wear on the cylinders. in the US, consumers associate the (more expensive) platinum plugs with "better," and typical for luxury cars, so VW recommends them for use.

i realize that's not helpful in this case - but I thought it was funny :D

Sometimes plug brands and types make a huge difference. Even if it fits, that doen't mean its the best option.

I have a 1998 Ford with the 5.4, if you put anything but motorcraft plugs in that engine you'll have problems.....

I had a buddy tell me once, if it's american put an american plug in it, if it's japanese put and japanese plug in it......you get the idea. There is some truth to it.
