View Full Version : External spare
Just wondering how many people run with the spare uncovered? Personally I don't like external spares, but I must admit, sometimes they look pretty good. Was following a fairly new CR-V yesterday. Looked like the original Honda alloy wheel. Sharp.
To me that looked much better than the ones with same color covers. Almost look like they try to camouflage themselves. Of course it doesn't work.
Is there a negative side to having the spare uncovered? Bad for the tires?

I run with the spare uncovered every once in a while. I have the SE and the cover gets tilted when I open and close the back door. When I get tired of fixing it, I take it off for a few months. I did buy a set of wheel locks (the spare seems so vunerable without the cover) and a cover for the hole in the middle of the wheel.

SE with the cover off for 3 reasons.
1. I actually do like the way it looks, after I get the "H" logo in the center, it will be complete.
2. The cover would always turn/twist. The logo of "HONDA' was never straight and would always have to fix it.
3. Do not know why, the SE hard cover would always get scratches. If I ever put the cover on, it will be aftermarket plastic! not the painted one.
2. The cover would always turn/twist. The logo of "HONDA' was never straight and would always have to fix it.
Why is that? Seems that every one I see has HONDA tilted. Don't think that applies to the black vinyl cover, does it?

On mine, it gets tilted from opening and closing the rear door. When I have the cover on, I pop the rear window for loading and unloading - the cover stays perfect.

Its for the SE hard cover, but I have seen it on the vinyl as well.
Picture looking at the cover and seeing the HONDA logo perfectly horizontal.
At least once a week, the cover would turn "on the wheel" and the word would not be perfectly horizontal.

Where did you get the cover for the center hole?

I used to run with mine on, but now I have nothing to put it on back there anymore. I do have both hard and soft covers if anybody wants them. Email me and we can arrange a price if interested.

 Sorry, but I'm confused. You have nothing to put it on back there? You don't have your spare back there anymore?

Nope, I shaved the spare tire. I put it under the table now when I carry one. Click the username and goto my homepage to see pictures.

Holy cow! I don't even know what to say. Is there anything on your V that you'll not modify? Sure would love to see the final version. (Will there ever be a final version? :D) Not sorry to see the external spare go. Still have to do something to the bumper?
I'm impressed. :)

Just completely shaved the outside door handles tonight pics will be up soon. I am going for a completely different show truck, most people do izuzus, S10s ranger and larger trucks and SUVs but I have never seen another CRV.
Here is a preview of the paint job but the car will look a little different.

I think it will be the first one that is completely shaved up, no body moldings/grooves, handles, spare tire, rear handle license plate bracket and probly more things will be shaved out later.

Chris man you have the most radical V's i have ever seen no one elses comes close. Also i run with the cover off only because when my mom owned the v it blew off and she never repalced it, but i'm looking for a new one because the spare has a little rust now.

Do you want a hard one or the soft vinyl one. I have both for sale.

I'm not sure because right now I have some motor work that needs to be done before I do anything.
