Hey Guys,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good steering wheel cleaner? My V is two years old now and I'm noticing the dirt and grime that's building up on the leather wheel wrap. I don't want to use anything that could potentially break down or damage the leather.

Thanks

I would wipe mine with the micro fiber rag I use on the dash with the dash cleaner or whatever I'm using. So just the damp microfiber rag after dash cleaning. Works for me.

Do you use a special dash cleaner? I'm just hesitant to use any old household cleaner on the materials in the car.

Mix a batch of Woolite and distilled water at 10:1 ratio for your cleaning agent. Apply it to the steering wheel with a microfiber towel or Scotch Brite delicate duty scuff pad. Then wipe off with a clean microfiber or terry cloth towel that has been dampened with distilled water. You don't want any detergent to remain on the leather--hence the wet towel. Then dry the steering wheel with a soft cloth or towel.

A lot of experienced detailers use a Woolite/water solution to clean interior leather. Do NOT use a vinyl cleaner on leather.

I only use car cleaning stuff. From my years on the show circuit I won many kits, so I've used and still own meguires, mothers and stinger car cleaning stuff. I have something for anything.

After cleaning the leather with the woolite mixture (which is good stuff), then you may want to condition the leather. I use Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner. Both are great products for off the shelf. I think I bought mine at Pepboys.

On the leather steering wheel of my S2000, I use Leather Master leather cleaner. Any water-based leather cleaner would work just fine. I do not condition the steering wheel with anything, as I do not like the slickness that conditioners leave behind.

The Woolite combo mentioned above is a great cleaner for almost anything in your car's interior. Very gentle and safe. Just condition the leather or plastic after use as noted above.
