Dear Honda, I can only speak for myself. Had I of test drove the CR-v at night, I never would have bought it with the color of the dash lights! I have changed them to blue & thanks for making that much harder in the 06's vs the Gen 1's... anyway I know it's minor as the rest of the CR-V rocks!

I bought my 06 CRV without knowing the instrument lights were orange but I find that I like them. However, you've now captured my interest about changing to blue. How did you do that. Can you provide any insights?
Thanks.....

I changed out the climate control to blue... in the early models, they had an orange sleeve over the bulb to make the color. In the 06's they used plastic inserts in the cover itself... just got blue plastic sheet protector from office max & swapped them out.. never quite got around to the cluster lights... somewhere I read you need led lights & a little more experience than I have... so now I live with them
PM me and I can give you a link to another site where a fella changed out his cluster from a civic & it worked fine for him... me, with lack of electrical smarts, just do not wanna mess anything up yet:)

I would call the dash lights amber rather than orange. Orange would be more vivid and towards the red scale than amber.

The soft amber glow is easy on the eyes, relaxing and somewhat warm.

I came from a Toyota Tacoma, which also had orange/amber lights, and it is making the transition to my new V easier. I think that the orange/amber is super easy to read and kind of unique!

Would you all believe that RED is the best color for dash lights, followed by amber, orange, etc. on down the spectrum? Fighter jets, etc. use red as it doesn't affect night vision. Blue does...

What I don't like about the interior lights is that the center stack & window controls are different color than the dash lights.
I like the blue/white color, but prefer red/orange, although those are usually held over for "sporty" cars that are suppose to show a sporty appearance.

^^^ My girlfriend said the same thing. I didn't like them at first, but they grew on me. :)

I bought BMW 318I new in 1984 and it had amber light. Ever since, I liked the amber light better than any other dash light. It is much easier on your eyes and it grows on you.

For what it's worth, I really dislike amber dash lights.
The Type S Euro Accord has amber gauges instead of the standard setup, and this alone stopped me buying that varient. The standard dash is very clear, modern and attractive.
My decision came down to a BMW or the CR-V, and the horrible, old fashioned looking dash board (whole design, including amber gauges) was a big negative for the BMW.
Lexus produced the perfect gauge look in the original LS400. Thankfully the latest Hondas have gone in the same direction.

^ I think it would be nice to have the option of choosing your dash light depending on your mood. ;) By the way, Hughesy, Happy New Year!

I agree, that would be a smart solution. The '07 Euro nav system lets you change the background colour, but I have to leave it blue to match the dash instruments.
So far the new year has been bad. My two year old daughter was sick (projectile) in the back of the CR-V  . Emergency clean up at road side, followed by shampoo at home. The new car smell has faded now!

Ouch! That hurts! I hope your 2 year old daughter is feeling better and it is nothing too serious. When kids are sick, that weighs much heavier than if we were sick.
On the other hand, it will be a story to tell as your daughter gets older about what you had to do to clean up. Ah, fatherhood! Enjoy it while you can. Once your kid grows up, you'll miss these days.
The best thing to do is to shampoo your carpet repeatedly to get the smell out. Vacuum as much as you can and repeat the process. New car smell eventually dissipates anyway.

I didn't know about the amber lights But I was going to buy an Audi with red lights so it didn't bother me. I Actually love them they are really easy to read are vivid and don't obstruct nightvision. I do like the Lexus dash and guage lights but I can see how they would be a pain.

I forget the number.....but the latest Mustang has a large number of dash light colour choices at the push of a button.
