Hi Guys,

Noticed a really bad rotten eggs smell coming from the vents of my 2005 diesel CR-V. It's only started happening recently, and is noticeable if the vents are set on fresh (regardless of whether the AC is on or off). If the vents are on recycle then the smell goes away.

Any ideas? There is no engine light, so not sure if it is the catalytic converter.

Thanks

Can you smell it from the outside/engine bay while the engine is running?

If you checked the grille where the outside air is taken (I believe this is where the windshield wipers are located).

I would suggest checking the cabin air filters as well (they are located behind the lower glove box).

I had the same smell from mine, but it only happened when I used the screen washer!
I rectified it by emptying the washer reservoir then I refilled it with just clean water with Milton (a baby water sterilizer). I used the washer until it came through to the jets and on the screen, then left it for the required 10 minutes or so, to do its job.
I then emptied the reservoir again and refilled with screen wash (I used the car for a few days, only to find the smell was still there slightly!) you may have to repeat a couple of times.
It worked for me so hopefully it cures your problem too.

Regards
Eric

Bet you have a dead little mouse in the vent system. I did (two). Do a search on the subject.

Yup - I had the same, traced it to the screen wash reservoir & flushed it out-like the Milton idea! My reservoir actually got green algae in it that eventually blocked the screen wash jets, inconvenient!
