Lock while filling the gas

The lock in the gas hose ( not sure of the right word here) never engages while I fill in my CRV, I always have to press the handle. Is there a particular reasons? I tried this in multiple gas stations, and nowhere it works.

Have you tried not sticking the nozel all the way in?

The station attendants can and do control the rate of flow.Do you have this problem at all stations.PS if you are getting a car wash go when it is not busy because they can control the speed of the car wash as well.
