I want to get some new speakers for my 03 CRV. The stock speakers are just alright.
I was looking at the speaker cover, and it appears it is built into the door. Do you have to take the door panel off? I'm going to look at it again later, but I was just looking for some help.
Also, what speakers did you use when you replaced the stock speakers, and how do you like them?
Thanks

Yes, you have to take the door panels off. Crutchfield.com has some good fitment charts.

I replaced the speakers in my '03 with Memphis Audio 6.5's. They sound great. I mounted them directly to the door panels. Also installed a Clarion sub-woofer under the front passenger seat. Others have mounted the replacement speakers to the frame of the OEM speaker.

Can you please post pics of your sub and tell us about the fitment? I am considering purchasing the Honda upderseat sub for my car because I like everything to look and fell stock.

I want to replace the speakers in my 05, but Crutchfield.com says nothing 'just fits', and I don't want to run extra wires for the component speakers they recommend. I just want better sounding speakers then the ones I currently have !!
Any suggestions?

I don't have pics of the Clarion under the seat, but I secured it with a bungee cord. A little hokey, but it has been secure for 3 years. I tapped into the front speaker wires. I got it on ebay for 100 bucks. The Honda sub comes with mounting kit and plugs right in though. Not sure how it performs??

I just bought a new head unit for my 2003 CRV (from Crutchfield) and decided to upgrade the speakers.
I wanted to put some Infinity Reference Series in the front and some MB Quart Mid Woofers in the back, and perhaps a small sub woofer under the seat although that may be a little to "much" for me and my family. From what little I've read on the subject, leaving the tweeters in the front gives you a balanced rich sound, and this setup doesn't require you to externalize with component speakers. I did this in my element and was very happy with the results (the element has a supposedly 270 watt radio and a built in woofer)
Unfortunately Crutchfield says "modified fit" for any 5.25 or 6.5 speaker as mentioned earlier in this thread. If you add the speakers to your shopping cart you get an information screen that says you'll need to fabricate a bracket to install the speakers ( at least for the rear)
Because its a b'day present for my wife ( the CRV is actually hers) then I won't get around to doing the install until mid November.
In between now and then I plan on taking the rear speakers out and making a bracket.

I made the mistake of ordering the stock sub when purchasing my 06'. It sounds horribly boomy meaning it is just a midwoofer playing only around 80-120hz. Thats pretty much the reason for me searching through this forum. To find out if anyone has one installed, and decided to upgrade it or remove it. I honestly dont know where it is, but you're better off not getting it installed and using bass boost and keeping the volume down. Im really quite annoyed by this, especially considering its cost.
