Hello everyone! I am considering buying a diesel after having owned 4 petrol crv s. However I cannot afford to buy new so I am looking at a 2005 with 80,000 miles .My wife thinks I am crazy to buy one with this mileage but I think it' s ok with full honda history.Has anyone got any help or advice in this area.I have checked other threads but don t feel as though they are what I am after. Thanks very much .Paul in sunny Bolton U.K.!!!
I sold my 2005 CR-V a couple of weeks ago with ~75000 miles on the clock and it was running very well.
I would check that there's no clutch slippage ... for the rest, it's more a matter of luck.
To be honest, I still believe that the Honda petrol engines might be more reliable than the diesel one just because Honda has been producing petrol engines for a longer period of time and the petrol is less complex as well (no turbo, for example).

After selling our unrealible VW Touran PD TDI 2.O last week:D, and getting lots of info from this forum, we have just brought an 06 CR-V Sport with 106K miles, but it does come with full factory service history, from the same dealer, who have also confirmed the service history:)
We just couldn't afford a car with average mileage, but the car drives, sounds and has the wear of an average 06 car, so we are very please with it so far. We did walk into this thinking we may have to pay out for a clutch change some time soon, but again it seems fine at the moment, guessing the car did huge motorway mileage and not much town driving thus not slipping the clutch too much.
Cheers Steve

Check the Differentials... Mk2 + Mk3 versions occasionally fail. Drive round in tight circles in both directions. Listen and feel for grating sounds.
Can be fixed with a good flushing of oil, £1000+ to replace.

note that's L1000+ to replace the diff, i assume, not refill the oil! :D

Ok, will check, not noticed anything yet, in fact, apart from the reading on the odometer, the car feels like new, very happy so far:D

Bit strong!
Although the dealings I have had with the main Honda dealer are certainly lacking, but then ALL main dealers are to my mind short of expertise. As for the Honda quality, I am more than happy. We did a short trip to Fountains Abbey last sunday, only around 80 miles, there and back, and I got 47 mpg from my 2.2 diesel. I dont think that is bad. Around town I get 38-42.
