We purchased a beautiful 2002 LX a couple weeks ago and with some help from the forums here I ordered the Keyless addon kit from HandA. I installed it in about 3 minutes tonight. The first thing I noticed is it automatically locks the doors after 30 seconds. The first thing my wife said was "disable the auto-lock feature."
Does anyone know if there is a way to set a Valet Mode to disable that feature? It would prove problematic when we take it in to get detailed.
Thanks for any help

Eric Do you mean to say that it locks the doors after 30 seconds, IF you pushed the unlock button and then did not open one of the front doors within that 30 second time period? If so, that is what it is supposed to do. It prevents one from locking the car and having an accidental press of the unlock button as you walk away, from leaving it unlocked.
There is no valet mode.

The scenario that has her concerned is this. She walks out to the driveway with Baby and gear. Unlocks the car and put the baby in the car-seat (back seat). Drops her purse and keys on the table between the front seats and closes the door. Then walks around to the driver's side, but gets distracted for more than 30 seconds on the way around (neighbor, pet, mailman, whatever)
The doors go click and baby is locked in with keys.
The obvious solution is to never leave your keys inside, buuuuuuuut....
I gues the alternative is to install an alarm and disable the auto-locking feature on it.
Thanks

I think I got it. You are saying that she is unlocking all doors by pressing the unlock button on the remote, twice, then opening a back door and shutting it and after 30 seconds, without ever opening a front door, it then re-locks all the doors? Have you verified that this what is happening? Even if you open a back door, it doesn't re-lock the doors. I just went out and tried it, just for fun.

We've had the same problem with the keyless locking system's "valet" feature. I took my mother-in-law, who has Alzheimer's, to the doctor's office. When we got back to the car, I put my purse on the center console so I'd have both hands free to load her in the car. Then I folded up her wheelchair and put it in the back. Before I got to the driver's door, I heard the doors lock, with my keys and my mother-in-law inside. She is too disoriented to unlock a door. It was very warm day in June. It took about 30 minutes to find my husband and get him to come and rescue us. Fortunately, she survived this incident.
The same thing happened a couple of other times when my son-in-law was taking her to her hair appointment.
I talked to the service manager at the dealership, and he did something to reset this feature. Something like click the ignition three times, spin around on your right foot, and say "Help me" three times.
This took care of the problem for a while, but then I had another problem which required them to fool around with the electronics--I believe it was a "Check engine" light, caused by not clicking the gas cap enough times. They reset that (for $95), but when I left the dealership, I got a light indicating that the SRS system was not working. I called the dealership, and they said the sensors are located under the passenger seat, and if my cell phone rang while sitting on the passenger seat, it could have done something to that sensor. So I took the car back in to the dealership, and they reset that light, but re-enabled the "valet" feature.
The automatic locking is still a problem, but I'm afraid that if I let them touch my car again, even worse things could go wrong! If I open the passenger door before I get in the car, I just put my car keys in my pocket . But really, the "valet" feature is a serious hazard to babies, old people, pets...
If anyone knows the secret hocus-pocus that will disable this "feature" again, please let me know.

My G1 V has this feature
When I first read about the door relocking within 30 seconds my first thought was 'Uh-oh!!'
So I tried it and found that if I unlock the doors and then do nothing they do relock within 30 seconds, but if I open any of the doors then it doesn't relock
Except this doesn't work with the tailgate

What you describe is a correct feature though. If you unlock via remote and then do not open a FRONT door in 30 seconds, it will re-lock. This is to prevent you from accidentally unlocking the V after you lock it and are walking away from the vehicle.
