armoured farmer 08-29-2009, 03:31 PM Can anyone help please, i have bought a 1999 cr-v today and have just got home and locked the doors via the fob, but can't see any flashing red light to let me know the alarm has been set..When i take the key out of the ignition i see a green "key" light on my dash for a second or two.
Can anyone tell where i should be looking for the alarm flashing LED and have i done something wrong please..
Also when i lock the doors via the fob, should any of the indicators flash to let me know its locked/un-locked ?
When i use the fob to unlock ,all i get is the internal light come on.
many thanks...Micky.
If you have a stock alarm, there would be a light that flashes at the radio. You may only see it if it's dark. Now you could see if you have an alarm by leaving your window down, lock the V with your fob, now unlock your door manually since your window is down, open your door. If nothing happens, then you may not even have an alarm.
What model is your V? If it's a LX or a DX, it may not have one. Search the web for your model type and year, you can find out what was standard install and what was optional.

hi mate its an ES, 1999 ,after market stereo,
An ES? There's a DX, LX, EX and SE ( only 2000 & 2001). Do you have painted bumpers and door moldings? If so it's an SE.
Now for the alarm, if it's an aftermarket stereo, then unless they installed an alarm? Try opening the door after you lock the V with your FOB.

armoured farmer is in the UK. Uk specs and model designations are different than those here in NA.

sorry mate, SE, yes was an after market stereo, will try unlocking door with key after fob has locked door, in the morning, don't wish to wake neighbours...
If the alarm dosn't sound ,would that mean, no alarm connected, as spec says their is one fitted, or would it mean its been disconnected, which meads after market alarm needs to be installed..???
Also ,because i have the green "key" sign when i turn off car, isn't that the immobi.liser sign...im not sure at all as its my 1st V..
many thanks for your time....Micky.
thanks for the help mate..
If the alarm doesn't sound, probably doesn't have one. Does the vehicle chirp when you lock the doors? My quess there was never one added?
The green key light is your immobi indicator light. And the immobi is a form of theft deterrant.

no chirps at all, so im guessing, NO ALARM.. The V isnt cambus is it, becos if not, then i'll fit an aftermarket alarm 2moro..
cheers mate for all the info......Micky.
armoured farmer 08-31-2009, 10:36 AM all sorted now, put a New JVC Bluetooth mp3 etc stereo and toad alarm in today ,works a treat,,thanks for your advice guys..
Micky.;)
illegal 09-01-2009, 10:43 AM just as a reference for anyone else, sometimes using the key on a car will deactivate an alarm, so to do a propper test, arm the system with the keypad, wait 5 min, and with the window already down unlock, or if possible, just open the door directly from the inside. If nothing comes on, then you can be 95% sure at this point it doesnt have an alarm, just keyless entry. BTW the light on a stock radio has NOTHING to do with an alarm. That is just a coded radio. No alarm is hooked up to the stock stereo as a light.
