Help me out here, all: what's up with the EMPTY wheel well on my (new) '04 EX? If having the spare in the well under the rear deck lowers center of gravity, reduces the overall length, etc, etc, why is the spare not in the well? This EX was bought from a lease turn-in, and so far I'm really pleased with it. FYI, I dropped off my leased Audi A4 and didn't even look back...! (Also FYI, my 15 year old daughter--of course the fashionista--thinks the CRV is cool. Who knew!?) :D

It wont support a full spare. In japan they use it but put a donut. Here we use it as an Ice box for ice and beer.

On both of ours, we have put the usual road necessities inside it. We start with a blanket placed on the bottom and folded over the other stuff to prevent rattles. Add a tug-em strap, first-aid kit, basic tool set, duct tape, tire plug/patch kit, a couple pairs of gloves and an extra winter coat plus a couple of el-cheapo orange rain ponchos and a small air compressor with a light. It's about 15 pounds of stuff. Seems like overkill, but if you need any of those items... you are glad to have packed them.

Thats exactly what I use it for. Plus a small tool kit.

Hey, thanks for the replies, all!

With the vaunted reliability of Honda products, what would I need with a toolkit? The cooler for beer and other such emoliaments sounds like a much better use for the space if you have to wait for the auto club to show up! ;)

Stock is great, but it might be that a donut would be fuel efficent and an easy way to lower the c of grav. Don't expect me to do it anytime soon--I am still too preoccupied with the possibilities for alcohol and car camping...

:D

Most of the items I mentioned (I do include a basic tool kit) are not for YOUR Honda, they are for the poor unfortunate owner of some other vehicle that you come across. I have pulled mere cars out of snowy ditches with my tug-em strap. :)
